Cybersecurity is one of the most significant areas for ensuring the success and longevity of a business. As the scale of cyber-attacks increases, company owners must supply protection to their business by recruiting skilled cybersecurity experts.

Since all industries are looking for safety and security for their data, the demand for cybersecurity is increasing day by day. It is the best time to start your career in network security as the number of jobs is expected to increase by almost 33% by the year 2030. So, here, we will discuss the information regarding cybersecurity certification and as a career choice.

What Is Cybersecurity?

Many organizations have already begun looking for cybersecurity to protect essential data from cybercriminals or hackers from government sectors to private sectors. Cybersecurity is mainly the practice to protect the networks, mobiles, data, servers, and systems from digital hackers. It is also called Information Technology Security. Also, many cafes, hotels, and restaurants are now using billing software for generating invoices safely.

Cybersecurity Certification Programs

Let’s know about the cybersecurity certification programs below:

1. CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professionals)

A CISSP certification will prove that you are experienced and skilled in IT security and can design and monitor the cybersecurity program. This Cybersecurity Professional Organization certification has ranked as the most sought-after credential in this IT industry. As per the statistics, almost 38% of people got this CISSP certification in 2021 worldwide.

2. CISA (Certified Information System Auditor)

This certification of the ISACA organization demonstrates your expertise in reporting on the security vulnerability assessment, reporting on compliance, and designing and implementation.

3. CISM (Certified Information Security Manager)

This certification from the ISACA organization lets you test your expertise in data security management, including issues like administration programs, program events, program development, and risk management.

4. CompTIA Security+

It is an entry-level security certification that verifies the core competencies required in any cybersecurity role. This certification demonstrates your capability to assess an organization’s security, monitor, and protect the cloud, IoT environments, mobile, etc.

5. CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker)

It is a certification offered by the EC-Council. You can get it to prove your skills in attack detention, prevention, penetration testing, and vectors.

6. GSEC (GIAC Security Essentials Certification)

GIAC offers this entry-level certification to those who have a background in networking and information. You can earn this certification to validate your skills in network security, cloud security, cryptography, etc.

7. SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner)

This certificate shows that you are well-skilled in designing, implementing, and monitoring a secure IT infrastructure.

8. CASP+ (CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner)

This certificate is specially designed for those cybersecurity professionals who have advanced skills but want to work in technology, not management.

9. GCIH (GIAC Certified Incident Handler)

Acquiring GCIH certification legitimates your understanding of offensive cyber activity, including general attack tactics and your ability to detect, respond, and defend against vectors and attacks.

10. OSCP (Offensive Security Certified Professional)

It is one of the well-known certifications that is mainly for penetration testers. You can validate your ability to produce penetration test attacks for every attack through the certificate.

Cyber Certification Organizations

There are lots of major cybersecurity certification organizations in the market. You can choose a reputed organization depending on your ability and skills to get a certificate in cybersecurity. Once you get your certification done from any of the well-known organizations then any reputed company will acknowledge you. So, it will be best if you get the certificate from a well-known organization. Some of the organizations that are highly reputed in this cybersecurity market are:

  • Information Systems Audit and Control Association- ISACA

How To Choose the Best Cybersecurity Certification?

Earning the cybersecurity certification means you are validating your skills so that it can help you to grow in your career. But you should consider some things before opting for the proper certification. Those are:

1. Experience Level

Choose your certification depending on your experience level. It will benefit you as you will get validation for your experience. For instance, if you’re in the position of a project manager for a cybersecurity department then it would be useful for you to also follow a PMP Certification training to enhance your leadership and managing skills.

2. Cost

Cybersecurity certifications are very costly, and you may have to pay additional hidden charges. The correct certification will eventually offer you a high-salary job in the future. Make sure to invest wisely as almost 40% of employees said that their organizations had paid their course and test fees.

3. Choose Domain Expertise

If you are new to the cybersecurity field, it will be best to choose a general certification. Focus on your expertise area first, then go for certification as per your expertise level.

4. Proper Research

Before choosing any cybersecurity certification, conduct proper research and check various job portals. Through this, you will know what type of certification is in demand.

Conclusion

Almost every company is searching for cybersecurity professionals to protect their data in this technological era. So, now is the best time for you to choose cybersecurity as your career. If you think you are well-skilled in cybersecurity and have potential in that area and experience, you can apply anywhere at your convenience.

Tech jobs unemployment rate falls to 1.7%; job postings up 49%

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., Aug. 5, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- The technology jobs market continued its run of gains, which contributed to the unexpectedly strong #JobsReport for the month, according to analysis by CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce.

CompTIA is the voice of the world's information technology industry. (PRNewsFoto/CompTIA)

"The tech jobs market has repeatedly outperformed in the face of real and perceived economic weakness."

Tech occupations across all industry sectors increased by an estimated 239,000 positions in July, CompTIA's analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reveals.1 The unemployment rate for tech occupations was 1.7% in July.

Tech industry level employment experienced a net gain of 12,700 workers, the 20th consecutive month of employment growth. Tech industry employment has increased by 143,700 jobs this year, an increase of 55% year-over-year.

Employer job postings for technology positions approached 484,000 in July, a slight decrease from the previous month but still at a near record-level.2 Through the first seven months of 2022 US companies listed approximately 3.1 million jobs postings for tech positions, an increase of 49% for the same period last year.

"The tech jobs market has repeatedly outperformed in the face of real and perceived economic weakness," said Tim Herbert, chief research officer at CompTIA. "The data confirms that for every layoff announcement there are other employers stepping in to take advantage of tech talent hiring opportunities."

A closer examination of the tech job posting data from July shows that there are employment opportunities at every experience level, in a variety of occupation categories and in nearly every metro market and state across the country.

About one in five tech job postings were for positions requiring two years or less of experience. About half specified three to five years of experience, while 13% sought candidates with nine or more years of experience.

Software developers and engineers are the most in-demand positions employers are looking to hire – nearly 148,000 job postings last month. There is also a strong job market for IT support specialists, IT project managers, systems engineers and architects and network engineers and architects. Positions in emerging technologies or jobs requiring emerging tech skills accounted for one-third of all postings in July.

The New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco metro markets recorded the largest month-over-month increase in tech jobs postings. But "under the radar" markets also populate this list.

Metro Area July Tech Job Postings Increase
Topeka, KS 1,437 627
Lansing, MI 1,810 570
Trenton, NJ 1,770 468
Huntsville, AL 2,195 324
Rochester, NY 1,222 283
Little Rock, AR 1,949 257
Oklahoma City, OK 1,764 207

Within the tech sector, three occupation categories recorded job growth in July – other information services, including search engines (+6,800), data processing, hosting and related services (+4,100) and computer and electronic products manufacturing (+3,300). Hiring in the IT services and custom software development category was flat, while telecommunications-related occupations declined (-1,400).

Killexams : CompTIA CEO outlines bold initiative to create the preeminent destination to start, build and 'supercharge' a career in tech

Todd Thibodeaux uses ChannelCon 2022 state of the industry remarks to unveil CompTIA's Project Agora; invites broad industry participation in the effort to fight for tech talent

CHICAGO, Aug. 3, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce, is undertaking an expansive effort to create the most resource-rich source of information and support for anyone interested in starting, staying and succeeding in a career in technology.

"The goal of Project Agora is to create the most respected place to start, build and supercharge your tech career."

CompTIA President and CEO Todd Thibodeaux revealed the association's Project Agora during his state of the industry remarks at ChannelCon 2022.

"The goal of Project Agora is to create the most respected place to start, build and supercharge your tech career," he said. "With amazing resources and broad support from our members, partners and industry Project Agora will help people find success in the tech workforce."

The labor market is in a period of unprecedented transition, characterized in large part by the volume of frictional unemployment as individuals search for, or transition from one job to another. One in four US workers were actively seeking a new job or pursuing other career options during Q2 2022, CompTIA research reveals.1 While tech is among the top five industries job seekers were considering, it ranked behind several other sectors, including sales, real estate, healthcare, hospitality and finance. A lack of confidence in technical skills, concerns about the cost and the time it will take to learn those skills and perceptions about the tech industry culture are factors that contribute to reluctance to consider tech as a career option.

"Our challenge is to convert more career intent people to tech intent," Thibodeaux said. "We need to tell better stories, more consistently, about how truly great it is to work in tech. The way we get the talent we need is by fighting for it."

Project Agora will help in that effort, first by enabling individuals to explore in great depth tech jobs and careers. CompTIA has identified 30 different job roles covering 90% of tech employment. The next step is creating resources to engage users and convert them from career intent to tech intent. Thibodeaux issued a call to action for the industry to get involved in this effort to build the best, most comprehensive collection of tech career resources available anywhere.

"Confidence gaps, career transition gaps and reskilling gaps are not insurmountable barriers but rather opportunities to chart a new course for individuals and the companies that employ them," Thibodeaux concluded. "Project Agora is all about unlocking potential, for the industry, and for millions of people we want and need working in it,"

Employment growth spans all provinces, but demand for tech talent often outstrips supply

TORONTO, Aug. 1, 2022 /CNW/ -- The growth trajectory for technology-related employment is Canada is expected to continue in 2022 following a year in which employers hired more than 100,000 tech workers, according to new research published by CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce.

Net tech employment in Canada reached an estimated 1,235,692 workers at the end of 2021, an increase of nearly 9% over the previous year, CompTIA's "State of the Tech Workforce Canada" report reveals. CompTIA projects tech-related will grow by 1.5% this year – more than 19,000 net new jobs.

"The impressive rebound in employment is a clear sign of how essential technology is to every business and industry," said Gordon Pelosse, senior vice president for employer engagement at CompTIA. "Companies were quick to restaff and expand their technology teams as business conditions improved, adding talent in critical areas such as cybersecurity, data, technology services and tech support."

Employer job postings, another layer of insight into the tech job market, also bounced back in 2021 as many employers resuming hiring activity as the Canadian economy recovered. In 2021 employer job postings for technology positions jumped 54,552 from 2020, the equivalent of a 59% increase. By comparison, job postings for all occupation increased 50%.

"Employment options in technology are plentiful at all careers levels, from advanced positions for individuals with experience under their belts, to entry-level openings that offer good salaries and opportunities for advancement," Pelosse said.

Slightly more than half of employer job postings for tech jobs in 2021 specified a required level of work experience, with the remaining 42% unspecified. This indicates that many employers continue to evaluate their recruiting practices to accept more candidates for consideration, such as those with industry-recognized certifications rather than traditional university degrees.

While technology companies operate and tech jobs are available across the country, Canada's tech community is concentrated in metropolitan areas, led by Toronto. At 10%, Toronto has the highest concentration of net tech employment as a percentage of its overall employment. Montreal (8.3%), Vancouver (7.8%) and Calgary (6.4%) all have a higher concentrations of technology workers than the national benchmark (6.3%).

Three metro markets, again led by Toronto, dominate tech hiring projections for 2022 CompTIA estimates that 5,756 net new tech jobs will be created in Toronto this year. Vancouver (+3,621) and Montreal (+2,705) are also expected to see solid job growth, with smaller number of job gains anticipated in Edmonton and Calgary.

Since 2016, net tech employment has increased by an estimated 213,432 net new jobs, with steady growth during this span, except for a decline in the COVID-19 pandemic impacted year of 2020. Net tech employment accounted for approximately 6.3% of the total Canadian workforce in 2021. The tech industry delivers approximately 5.3% of direct economic value, which translates to $104.5 billion CAD.

CompTIA's "State of the Tech Workforce Canada" report provides an in-depth look at employment, economic impact, technology trends, salaries, hiring activity and more across the provinces and metropolitan areas of Canada. The report draws upon several data sources, including Canadian government statistics (StatsCan), CompTIA, Lightcast™ (formerly EMSI Burning Glass) and more.
