ICAI CADecember 2023exam: Important exam guidelines The (ICAI) has issued important guidelines for its CA foundation exam 2023. Candidates appearing for the exam, must be aware of certain key points regarding the upcoming exam:
Updated exam pattern: The ICAI has introduced modifications to the exam pattern for the CA Foundation programme. Students are now required to take exams for four subjects, as opposed to the previous requirement of six. Under the revised structure, the subject of business and commercial knowledge is no longer part of the business economics and business and commercial knowledge paper. Similarly, the business correspondence reporting subject has been eliminated from the business laws and business correspondence reporting paper. ICAI has also implemented negative marking, deducting 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
Passing requirements: A candidate will be deemed to have successfully cleared the Foundation Examination by achieving a minimum of 40 marks in each paper and securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate of all four papers, in a single attempt.
Negative marking: In Paper 3 & 4, negative marking is applicable for each incorrect answer. 村 (One Fourth) mark will be deducted for each wrong response. It's important to note that multiple darkened circles for a question will also be considered as a wrong answer in Paper 3 and 4.
Rounding off: For Paper 1 and 2, half or more fractional marks will be rounded off to the next full mark. In Paper 3 and 4, any fraction of a mark will be rounded off to the next full mark.
Result improvement provision: It is clarified that the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988, do not provide for the improvement of the Foundation examination result. Consequently, students who have successfully passed the Foundation examination are not eligible to reapply or reappear in the Foundation examination.
Candidates can refer to exam guidelines in more detail from the official ICAI CA 2023 notification.
