I have a family history of skin cancer, which means I’m at higher risk of developing it, so I have a standing dermatology appointment every August.
This year, while my dermatologist examined every inch of my skin — including the territory between each toe — I tried not to chat her up, so she could concentrate. After a while, however, I couldn’t resist asking her: What did she wish her patients knew about sun protection?
Fifteen minutes later, we were still deep in conversation. So I decided to pose the question to five other dermatologists. Here’s what you should know.
Car windshields are typically treated to protect drivers from ultraviolet rays that cause skin damage, but side and rear windows may not offer the same protection, said Dr. Jeremy Brauer, a dermatologist in New York City and a spokesman for the Skin Cancer Foundation.
“This means UV radiation can reach you through these windows,” he said, adding that chronic UVA exposure through windows can increase skin cancer risk.
When you’re in your car, protect your skin with sunglasses, clothing (such as long sleeves and a hat) and a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, Dr. Brauer advised. “You can also consider installing UV-blocking window film on your car windows,” he said.
Sunscreen spray is convenient, but people often use it incorrectly, said Dr. Joshua Zeichner, the director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital. “You cannot spray a plume of sunscreen into the air and then walk into it the way you might do with perfume,” he said.
Instead, he said, hold the can one inch from your skin and spray for a few passes until the surface of your skin glistens. Then rub it in to ensure you cover any missed areas.
Blood pressure medications, prescription acne treatments such as tretinoin and isotretinoin, and even over-the-counter medications such as NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs including ibuprofen and naproxen) contain compounds that may cause photosensitivity — a change activated by sunlight that can make skin more sensitive to burns, said Dr. Loren Krueger, assistant professor of dermatology at the Emory University School of Medicine.
When taking these medications, “consider that only a short burst of sun may cause you to burn,” Dr. Krueger said. A list of medications that can cause photosensitivity is here; if you are taking any of these, Dr. Krueger said, “be extra cautious” and wear protective clothing and sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Many lip products don’t have SPF, said Dr. Aegean Chan, medical director of California Dermatology Group in Santa Barbara, Calif. “But the lips are skin as well, so they’re just as susceptible to UV damage,” she said.
Use a lip balm of at least SPF 15 as your go-to lip balm, said Dr. Corey Hartman, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. “I wouldn’t even think about it as sunscreen — I’d just think about it as what you use for your lips.”
Always carry it with you and try to apply every hour, he said, adding that if you’re wearing lipstick, wear SPF balm underneath, because most lipsticks do not provide adequate sun protection.
If you have a history of cold sores and you’re not wearing lip balm with SPF, UV light can trigger an outbreak, Dr. Chan said. “So a lot of people may notice they get flares of their cold sores after a sunny tropical vacation if they’re not wearing protection,” she said.
And if your lips do get burned, treat them with a cool compress and an over-the-counter steroid cream to ease the pain and irritation, Dr. Hartman said.
I’ve been there, and I would add: Lay off the hot sauce until they heal.

Spend enough time on social media, specifically the wellness communities on TikTok and Instagram, and you'll be convinced your daily multi-vit just won't hack it anymore.
You might discover that an iron supplement could support and mitigate the effects of aheavy period or that zinc can work to bolster your immune system during cold season. Loss of skin elasticity? Evening primrose oil or collagen might help. Struggling with anxious feelings or lack of sleep? Look no further than ashwagandha and magnesium. Whatever your concern, there's a supplement ready to take centre stage in your medicine cabinet.
Most recently, NAD+, a little-known supplement responsible for helping the body with everything from metabolism to healthy ageing, is having its moment in the sun. Here, the experts explain what NAD+ is, the benefits of taking NAD+ and if you can increase NAD+ naturally. Consider this NAD+ for dummies (but obvi we don't think you're a dummy).
"NAD+ or Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide is a coenzyme that plays a key role in energy production and cellular communication," explains registered dietician and founder of Fertility Dietician and Dietician Ro, Ro Huntriss. "It is involved in various metabolic reactions, including those involved in converting nutrients into energy. NAD+ levels decline with age and have been linked to ageing-related processes."
To put it simply, NAD+ helps your body build energy. Surprisingly it's something your body is already producing.
"The human body naturally produces NAD+ through various metabolic pathways, including the conversion of the B-vitamin niacin (nicotinamide) into NAD+," Sebnem Unluisler, a genetic engineer at the London Regenerative Insitute shares with Cosmopolitan UK.
And, no, NAD+ is not the same as vitamin B3 – although the supplement is derived from niacin (vitamin B3). "Vitamin B3 is an essential nutrient that we need to consume through our diet. NAD+ is a coenzyme which is derived from Vitamin B3," explains Huntriss.
If you want to be really technical, Unluisler breaks it down: "NAD+ is a coenzyme that participates in various cellular reactions, whereas vitamin B3 (niacin) is a nutrient that can be converted into NAD+." Great.
Whether you choose to supplement with NAD+ or not is your business. What we can do is lay out all of the benefits of NAD+, as well as the drawbacks and whether or not NAD+ is safe for pregnant people. So, let's start with the benefits – of which there are a healthy handful.
"Enhanced metabolism, DNA repair, increased cellular function and possibly the slowing of ageing are some of the potential advantages of taking supplements that include NAD+ or its precursors, such as nicotinamide riboside, NMN, or nicotinamide mononucleotide," lists Unluisler.
Fortunately, there are ways to increase NAD+ naturally. According to Huntriss, eating foods that are rich in vitamin B3, like meat, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds, can help increase levels of NAD+ in the body, along with regular exercise which helps to slow the decline.
According to TikTok, yes, absolutely. In reality, it's more nuanced. NAD+ plays a fundamental role in energy production, cellular function and ageing, it won't magically turn back the clock. What it can do is move the dial further towards optimal health and support your body as you age.
"Although evidence is still emerging, some people choose to supplement with NAD+ in the hope it can support healthy ageing," says Huntriss. "Some athletes take NAD+ to optimise performance, it can support energy levels, evidence suggests it could support a healthy nervous system and research suggests it could support reproductive health. However, more research is required to support these recommendations."
Supplements, even those that are labelled holistic or 'natural', can have contraindications with other medications or supplements. St John's Wort, for example, is incredibly potent and can have severe side effects if not taken in the correct amount or combination. While NAD+ is largely considered to be safe, Unluisler says it's best to exercise caution.
"Individuals taking certain medications, especially those affecting blood sugar levels, blood pressure, or clotting factors, should consult a healthcare professional before considering NAD+ supplementation. Additionally, NAD+ supplements might interact with certain health conditions so it's really important to seek medical advice before use."
For pregnant people, NAD+ supplementation is something to explore with hesitancy. Due to the lack of research on the effects NAD+ supplements can have on pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as foetuses and babies, it's best to speak to your doctor first.
"NAD+ deficiency could manifest in various ways, including persistent fatigue, cognitive decline, muscular weakness, and potentially compromised immune function," describes GP, aesthetic doctor and founder G&M Healthcare, Dr Grace Hula. "However, pinpointing NAD+ deficiency solely based on symptoms can be challenging, as these signs might overlap with other health issues."
So, that's everything you need to know about NAD+. All that's left for us to do is suggest a few NAD+ supplements if you've decided to take the leap.
A: Solar panels can be a worthwhile investment in Texas because of the abundance of solar energy and the potential for significant savings on energy bills. Texas receives plenty of sunlight year-round, making it an ideal location for solar energy systems. The average home energy consumption in Texas varies depending on the size and energy efficiency of a home, and daily energy consumption may fluctuate due to weather conditions and household activities. These factors may affect the extent to which solar is worth it for an individual home. But generally, by installing solar panels, homeowners can generate their own electricity during peak sun hours and reduce their reliance on the power grid.
The savings that can be achieved with solar panels depend on current electricity rates. For those who have high electricity rates, switching to solar energy can result in substantial savings over time. However, for homeowners whose electricity bills are already low, the savings may not be as significant. The size of the solar panel system that’s installed and its level of efficiency will directly affect the amount of electricity it can generate. A larger and more efficient system can generate more power and lead to higher savings.
With Texas being prone to frequent power outages, having energy storage batteries as part of a solar power setup can provide peace of mind. These batteries can store excess electricity generated during sunny hours and provide backup power during outages. While the electricity grid connection is necessary to supplement solar energy during cloudy days or nighttime, investing in solar panels can significantly lower costs for electricity.
The cost of solar panels in Texas varies depending on several factors, such as the size of the system, the type of solar panels, installation costs, and any available incentives or rebates. Solar panel prices can change over time due to market fluctuations and technological advancements. Homeowners may want to consider asking for a quote from one of the top solar companies in Texas like SunPower or ADT Solar for more personalized pricing information.
The overall cost to install solar panels ranges from $18,100 to $35,064, with homeowners spending an average of $26,579. Installing a Tesla solar roof costs about $105,000 on average. The final cost can vary depending on the size and complexity of the system, but there are often various financial incentives, rebates, and tax credits available for solar installations at the federal, state, and local levels that can help offset these costs. To get a more accurate estimate of the long-term savings and return on investment (ROI), homeowners can consider consulting with local solar installers. They can perform a solar site assessment, taking into account the specific location, energy consumption, and other factors to provide a customized analysis. It’s worth noting that the solar industry is continually evolving, and policies, incentives, and electricity rates may change over time. It’s essential for homeowners to stay up to date with the latest information from reputable sources when making a decision. The current prices of solar panel systems will depend on the system size.
Texas has a history of high energy prices, and this can be attributed to various factors including the state’s large size, high demand for electricity due to hot temperatures, reliance on fossil fuels, and occasional weather-related events that strain the power grid. In 2022, homeowners in Texas paid an average of 13.9 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh). That price reflected an 18 percent increase from average costs in 2021. Depending on the provider, electricity prices in Texas can range from 10.4 cents per kWh to 20.7 per kWh.
By producing their electricity with solar panels, homeowners can potentially offset the cost of their annual electricity consumption. This can lead to lower electric bills and may even result in excess electricity, which can be stored or sold back to the utility company through net metering arrangements. This not only helps homeowners save on energy costs but also contributes to a greener and more sustainable energy grid. If homeowners purchase an average-size solar panel system outright, over the span of 20 years, they can expect to save around $24,829. For those who choose financing, the long-term savings may be less.

No matter where a homeowner lives, assessing the amount of direct sunlight a home receives is crucial before deciding whether solar panels are worth it for the home. It’s important to consider whether there will be sufficient electricity production to power the home at night when solar panels are not actively generating energy. There are several steps homeowners in Texas can take to determine whether their home gets enough sunlight for solar panels.
Solar energy can offer substantial returns for homeowners with high energy demands, particularly in regions like Texas where air conditioning is a major energy consumer. Larger homes also tend to have more significant energy needs, and Texas homes have relatively high square footage on average compared with the rest of the country. Solar panels can offset electricity costs by generating clean and renewable energy from the sun, reducing the reliance on traditional fossil fuel–based electricity.
Electricity use and energy usage are not the same thing, and homeowners will want to keep in mind that energy usage also encompasses propane and natural gas. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, in 2021 monthly household electricity usage in Texas totaled 1,094 kilowatt hours on average. This translated to about $132.40 in monthly costs.
A significant incentive for installing solar panels in Texas is federal solar tax credits. The Residential Clean Energy Credit, formerly called the ITC, allows homeowners to claim up to 30 percent of the installation costs as a tax credit. The local utility company may also offer incentives or rebates to encourage the adoption of solar power. These tax credits and incentives can further reduce the overall cost of electricity and increase the ROI. Homeowners in Texas can benefit from federal tax credits and state-level incentives, which can significantly reduce the up-front costs of installing solar panels, and they can make solar energy even more financially attractive. According to the renewable energy property tax exemption, homeowners in the state of Texas will not have to pay extra taxes due to the increase in property value that a solar panel system adds to a home.
Net metering allows homeowners to sell excess electricity produced by their solar panels back to the grid, effectively earning credits or money. Understanding the net metering policies in Texas is crucial for determining the ROI of a solar panel installation. When the sun is shining and the solar panels produce more electricity than the home needs, the excess power is sent back to the utility service. A power conversion system is used to convert solar energy into electrical power compatible with the grid, allowing homeowners to feed excess electricity back into the grid.
The utility company will then credit the homeowner’s account for the surplus electricity. This credit can be used to offset the cost of electricity drawn from the grid during periods when the solar panels aren’t producing enough power, such as at night or on cloudy days. The homeowner’s energy bill reflects the net energy consumption, which takes into account both electricity purchased from the grid and excess electricity supplied to the grid.
For homeowners whose annual electricity generation from solar is relatively high, net metering programs can significantly reduce electricity bills and encourage the adoption of renewable energy sources. It’s worth noting that specific buy-back rates can vary among utility companies and regions.
|Utility Company||Buy-Back Rate per kWh||Retail Rate per kWh|
|Austin Energy||9.7 cents||~10.40 cents (average)|
|CPS Energy||Same as retail rate||11.30 cents|
|El Paso Electric Company||Same as retail rate||11.11 cents|

Solar panels can increase the value of a home, making them a potentially worthwhile investment for homeowners who plan to sell their property. Below are some reasons solar panels can enhance the value of a home.
Solar power remains a leading solution for homeowners who prioritize environmental sustainability and want to make a positive impact on the planet. Solar power relies on harnessing energy from the sun, which is a renewable and virtually inexhaustible resource. As long as the sun continues to shine, electricity can be generated through solar panels. One of the biggest advantages of solar energy is that it does not release harmful greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide or methane, into the atmosphere. By using solar power, homeowners can significantly reduce their carbon footprint and continue to mitigate climate change.
With proper maintenance and care, the best solar panels can have an expected lifespan of up to 35 years or even longer. Many reputable solar panel manufacturers provide warranties that last 25 to 30 years, which reflects their confidence in the technology’s durability and longevity. The payback period of a solar panel system refers to the amount of time it takes for the cost of the system to be recouped through electricity savings. This period depends on various factors such as the initial cost of the system, local electricity rates, available sunlight, and any applicable incentives or rebates.
For a solar panel installation project, it’s important to choose the right solar panel size and type. Solar shingles cost less than traditional panels and are a valid option, but traditional rigid panels are more energy efficient. It’s essential to ensure there are no gaps between panels during installation to maximize energy production. Regular panel cleaning also helps maintain their efficiency, but otherwise, solar panels require minimal maintenance. It may be worth hiring one of the best solar panel cleaning services for this task. It’s recommended that homeowners schedule regular inspections to make sure the solar panels are clean and there are no broken wires or connections. It’s important to note that the efficiency of solar panels may gradually decrease over time, but it’s typically at a slow rate. The lifespans of individual components of the solar panel array may also vary.
|Batteries||5 to 15 years|
|Inverters||12 to 25 years|
|Solar panels||20 to 35 years|
Solar energy can be a highly beneficial and economically viable option for homeowners in Texas. Besides solar panels’ potential to reduce energy bills, increase home value, and contribute to environmental sustainability, financial incentives and net metering policies can make the transition to solar power even more attractive and accessible. The state of Texas benefits from a high number of annual peak sun hours and extended daylight hours, making it an ideal location for solar panel installations. Homeowners who are interested in solar energy can take the first step by getting in touch with a local installer. Solar installers can be found across the state as solar technology continues to advance and prices become more competitive.
Investing in a solar panel system is an excellent way for homeowners to utilize a renewable energy source and potentially save a significant amount of money on electricity costs. For those interested in solar panels, the following frequently asked questions can help with the decision-making process.
If homeowners purchase an average-size solar panel system up front with cash, over the next 20 years, they can expect to save around $24,829.
Texas is considered one of the leading states in terms of solar energy capacity and potential, making it relatively solar-friendly. Several factors contribute to this solar-friendly status, including abundant sunlight, state-set renewable energy goals, solar initiatives and policies, a growing solar market, and a competitive electricity market.
Solar panels need to be cleaned regularly, and the cost can run from $150 to $750 for a professional cleaning. Regular panel cleaning helps maintain their efficiency, but overall, solar panels require minimal maintenance. It’s recommended that homeowners schedule regular inspections to make sure the solar panels are clean and there are no broken wires or connections.
Texas homeowners who belong to an HOA need not be concerned with HOA regulations regarding solar power. Texas has a solar rights law that prevents an HOA from banning solar panels on homes.
To determine how many solar panels are needed to power a house in Texas, homeowners will need to consider their annual energy usage, solar panel wattage, and production ratio. The production ratio is a solar panel system’s estimated output over time compared to the system size. These totals will give a rough estimate, but to determine the total number of panels, homeowners will need to examine various panels and discover the wattage. Overall, the number of panels that are needed equals the system’s size divided by the production ratio divided by panel wattage. A professional will be able to give more specific information on how many solar panels are needed to power a house depending on individual circumstances.
Some of the best locations for solar panels in Texas are generally the western and southwestern regions, but overall it depends on several factors that influence solar energy production. Some key considerations include solar irradiance or areas with higher amounts of sunlight, orientation and tilt of the solar panels, shading, temperature, and local regulations.

In today’s hot labor market, employer-sponsored benefits continue to be a non-negotiable piece of the employee value proposition. But many factors, including inflation, economic instability and increased health care utilization as a result of the pandemic are driving up healthcare costs.
Employers must balance the need to offer competitive benefits with what they can afford and invest their benefits budgets wisely.
So how can employers control costs, while providing an attractive benefits program that keeps their employees happy, healthy and more financially secure? Consider these four simple steps.
During times of economic uncertainty, employers may be tempted to scale back employee benefits. But many organizations are actually doing the opposite.
According to a recent study, 60 percent of employers are considering adding a new insurance benefit over the next two years (about twice as much interest as there was five years ago). The top benefits they are planning to add include disability insurance (both short-term and long-term), vision care benefits, dental insurance and life insurance.
Because these top voluntary benefits are typically partially or 100 percent employee paid, employers can pass some or all of the cost to their employees. This can help employers attract and retain top talent while balancing cost and coverage.
To further ease the financial burden, employers may be able to take advantage of benefits-related tax deductions. Certain voluntary benefits can also be deducted from an employee's paycheck pre-tax, which can help lower the employee’s taxable income and the employer’s payroll taxes. This can be a win-win for both the organization and its employees.
Voluntary benefits can be especially valuable for small businesses, allowing them to offer more attractive benefits packages and compete with larger organizations that have bigger budgets for salaries.
For employees, voluntary benefits can provide income protection in an uncertain economy and help fill in gaps that are not covered by their core health insurance plan. Voluntary benefits offered through an employer are also typically more affordable than what employees would pay as individuals for similar coverage.
Research shows that employees now place greater importance on their benefits, but the types of benefits matter. When designing a benefits program, it’s important for employers to align with their workforces’ priorities.
For example, today’s employees increasingly value benefit offerings that provide income protection. A recent survey reported the interest in disability insurance almost doubled and the interest in life insurance tripled; while pet insurance and legal protection saw declines as compared to the 2022 survey.
Therefore, employers should be sure to offer fundamental voluntary benefits like disability and life insurance, which help provide employees with valuable income protection and financial security for their families at the time of loss or hardship.
These benefits can be even more valuable when enhanced with optional add-ons. Long-term disability options like student loan repayment benefits and activities of daily living (ADL), for example, provide an additional layer of financial security in the event of a disability. Employers should also look for value-added benefits included in some life and/or disability programs, such as travel assistance, beneficiary companion assistance and identity theft resolution. These important benefits can help add to the financial well-being of employees and their families during challenging times.
In an uncertain economy, business leaders are likely to prioritize cost savings, driving some companies to scale back on employee perks and extra benefits. But employers may actually be able to decrease future health care costs by offering benefits that support a healthy workforce.
Preventive eye and dental exams, for example, can help detect early signs of certain chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes, which can drive high-cost medical claims. By providing access to preventive care, dental and vision benefits can help catch potential health problems early — before they become more painful and costly.
Mental health is another growing concern. A exact Gallup poll found that nearly one-fifth of U.S. workers (19%) who rated their mental health as fair or poor missed about four times more work than their counterparts who reported good, very good or excellent mental health. This missed work is estimated to cost $47.6 billion in lost productivity over the course of a year.
In response, many employers are expanding mental health support for their employees through benefit offerings and other policies that prioritize employee wellness. One example of this is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which offers behavioral health support for employees struggling with a variety of work and life concerns, including mental health, financial and career issues.
Benefits communication plays a key role in the employee experience (EX) and helps cultivate an engaged and productive workforce. Research has shown that organizations with more effective EX outperform their peers for top-line growth, bottom-line profitability and return to shareholders.
Getting the most value out of an employee benefits program is contingent upon employees’ understanding and full appreciation of what is available to them. Employers should implement an ongoing, multichannel communication strategy that explains how voluntary benefits can meet employees’ needs during every life stage.
For many employers, one of the organization's largest budget items is likely employee benefits. And rightfully so – a strong employee benefits program continues to be critical for attracting talent and maintaining an engaged workforce.
Fortunately, with the right strategy and smart planning, employers can offer a robust benefits package that can help set them apart from their competition – all the while maintaining their budget.
One of the best ways to develop that strategy is working with an experienced broker and carrier partner focused on making the benefits process easier for employers and their employees. By choosing a voluntary benefits partner that offers customizable options, personalized services and simple administration including employer portals, benefits administrators can help make workplace benefits as seamless as possible.

Here’s an overview of some of the most vital natural ingredients incorporated into the Sun Coast Sciences ReActivate formula that support skin health and reduce signs of aging:
One of the primary reasons vitamin C is added to Sun Coast Sciences ReActivate is its ability to stimulate collagen production. It helps to boost collagen synthesis, resulting in firmer and more youthful-looking skin.
In addition to its role in collagen synthesis and wound healing, vitamin C also possesses skin-brightening properties. It inhibits the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for dark spots and uneven skin tone.
Furthermore, vitamin C has been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is a common underlying factor in various skin conditions, such as acne and rosacea. Vitamin C can help alleviate these skin concerns and promote a healthier complexion by reducing inflammation.
In its pure form, copper has a reddish-brown color and a shiny appearance. It is often used in skin care products as copper peptides, small protein fragments containing copper ions. These copper peptides easily penetrate the skin and deliver the benefits of copper directly to the cells.
One of the core mechanisms copper helps boost skin health is its involvement in collagen synthesis. Copper activates enzymes responsible for the formation of collagen and elastin fibers, thus promoting skin rejuvenation and reducing the appearance of fine lines.
A clinical trial conducted by researchers at the University of Michigan Medical School provides evidence of copper’s effectiveness. After 12 weeks, the researchers found that the side treated with the copper peptide cream showed significant improvement in skin firmness, elasticity and reduction in the appearance of wrinkles compared to the placebo side.
Sun Coast Sciences ReActivate Is On Sale Now For A Limited Time!
High-purity turmeric is now added to Sun Coast Sciences ReActivate to help treat cellular decay and promote glowing skin. This addition is not without reason, as the scientific community has extensively studied the properties of turmeric and its active compound, curcumin, to understand their effects on the body at a cellular level.
One of the key mechanisms by which curcumin in turmeric combats cellular decay is through its potent antioxidant properties.
Another fascinating aspect of curcumin is its ability to modulate gene expression. This means that it can help reverse some of the damage caused by cellular decay and stimulate the production of new, healthier cells. As a result, the skin appears more radiant and youthful.

Trans-Pterostilbene, often referred to as simply Pterostilbene, is a natural compound found in certain plants, such as blueberries and grapes. It is a derivative of resveratrol, another compound known for its health benefits.
It possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which further contribute to its skin-enhancing effects. Pterostilbene helps to calm inflammation in the skin, reducing redness and irritation.
This anti-inflammatory action also aids in preserving the collagen and elastin fibers in the skin, which are crucial for maintaining firmness and elasticity.
To support these claims, a study conducted on Pterostilbene and its effects on skin health is worth mentioning. In a study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, researchers investigated the anti-aging potential of Pterostilbene by conducting a placebo-controlled trial.
After eight weeks of daily application, the group using the Pterostilbene formulation demonstrated significant improvements in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

MSM, also known as methylsulfonylmethane, is a naturally occurring compound found in plants, animals and humans. It is a sulfur-containing compound that plays a vital role in various biological processes.
A study conducted by Kim et al. in 2014 provides evidence of the skin benefits of MSM. The study involved 46 participants who applied a cream containing MSM to one side of their face and a placebo cream to the other side twice daily for 16 weeks.
The results showed a significant improvement in wrinkles, skin firmness and texture on the side treated with MSM compared to the placebo side.
Ceramosides, derived from wheat seed, extract functions by enhancing the skin’s moisture-retaining properties, improving its overall health and appearance.
One of the core mechanisms through which ceramosides extract works is by strengthening the skin’s natural barrier. The outermost layer of our skin, known as the stratum corneum, is vital in maintaining moisture balance and protecting the skin from external factors.
Ceramosides extract contains a unique composition of lipids, including ceramides, essential stratum corneum components. These ceramides help to replenish and fortify the skin’s natural barrier, thus reducing transepidermal water loss and improving hydration levels.
A study involved 60 female participants between the ages of 25 and 60, divided into two groups. One group received a daily dosage of ceramosides extract, while the other received a placebo.
After 15 days of supplementation, the researchers observed a significant improvement in skin hydration levels in the group that received ceramosides extract.

WATERBURY, Conn., Aug. 17, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With the goal of broadening higher education opportunities for women, Post University, a U.S. News & World Report ranked online school based in Connecticut, is highlighting its partnership with the Connecticut Sun, a Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) team, by launching a new commercial campaign. As the official 'Education Partner of the Connecticut Sun,' the University is debuting the new digital ad during the WNBA season not only to introduce Post, but also to underscore its commitment to empowering both professional female athletes and WNBA fans alike in achieving their educational goals – at any stage of their careers.
“We are excited to tap into the energy of the Connecticut Sun and the fans of the WNBA. We take pride in this partnership and the opportunity it provides us to showcase how we can engage with new audiences in unique ways," said Post University President and CEO John L. Hopkins. "This collaboration has not only enabled Post to advance education equity but also uplift communities through meaningful initiatives like 'Threes for Degrees” and ‘Women of Inspiration.” Together, we will continue to empower and inspire the next generation of leaders – on and off the court.”
Women comprise over 70% of the online student enrollment and associate population at Post University, making the university a particularly fitting and supportive partner for the WNBA. This strong representation of women within the University highlights its dedication to fostering an inclusive environment, aligning seamlessly with the WNBA's mission to promote and celebrate the achievements of female athletes. This shared emphasis on women's progress and success further solidifies the synergy between Post and the Connecticut Sun, creating a powerful partnership to help professional women athletes pursue their degrees when it is time to retire from their athletic careers.
“We are proud to stand with Post University in prioritizing education. With a roster of professionals that have benefited from a college education while competing at the highest level, this partnership connects on-court success with career development for our fans,” said Connecticut Sun President Jennifer Rizzotti.
The commercial will be shown during games in the Mohegan Sun Arena as well as in digital streaming services in Connecticut.
For the past year, Post’s partnership has offered post-secondary education, career development and continuing education benefits to Sun players and staff, more than 8,000 MGE employees and approximately 2,000 tribal members. During the 2023 season, Post will launch its “Threes for Degrees” in-game initiative. For every three-pointer made by Connecticut Sun players during home games, the University will donate $100 to an educational scholarship for a student to pursue higher education. One student will win the $15,000 scholarship awarded by the Connecticut Sun Foundation.
In addition to the educational opportunities this partnership fosters, Post is a “Jersey Patch Sponsor” through the 2026 season. On August 31, Post will sponsor a themed night celebrating the “Women of Inspiration,” honoring women who have made significant contributions to their fields and industries.

Experts note that the scientific reasoning behind the removal of lectins from the diet and the impact of anti-nturents on human health is weak and misleading.
“This concept of an ‘anti-nutrient’ is totally taken out of context and made to sound scary, when in fact these foods are an essential part of a healthy and balanced diet,” explains Jenna Werner, a registered dietitian and owner of Happy Strong Healthy, a nutrition coaching service based in New Jersey.
That said, some lectins could be dangerous in extremely large quantities or when certain foods are eaten raw, explains Joanne Slavin, Ph.D., a professor and registered dietitian in the department of food science and nutrition at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
“For example, the lectins in kidney beans are dangerous if the beans aren’t cooked,” notes Langer.
Red kidney beans contain the lectin phytohaemagglutinin, and when consumed raw, can be toxic and cause gastrointestinal distress when as few as four or five raw beans are eaten, according to the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
However, cooking, soaking, stewing, boiling or canning lectin-containing foods, including kidney beans, destroys any dangerous lectins that might be in these foods, effectively making them harmless.
In the context of how most Americans eat, it’s very unlikely someone would eat a large enough amount of active lectins to cause issues, because foods with harmful lectins are rarely eaten in their raw form, suggests Dr. Sun.
Generally speaking, even if someone were to consume a large amount of lectin-containing foods, scientists are not even sure what dose of lectins might be harmful or beneficial to health, adds Dr. Slavin.
