With 66% of large organizations using at least one end of life PHP version

MINNEAPOLIS, February 7, 2023 – Perforce Software, a provider of solutions to enterprise teams requiring productivity, visibility, and scale along the development lifecycle, today announced the results of their annual survey of the PHP ecosystem, the Zend 2023 PHP Landscape Report.

Zend PHP Landscape Report 2023

The annual report, produced by Zend by Perforce, presents industry data and analysis on the key technologies and trends within the PHP development ecosystem. This year, key findings centered on PHP version adoption – with over 61% of those surveyed using at least one end of life PHP version. For companies with more than 100 employees, that number rose to nearly 66%.

“PHP moves fast, and our survey results again show that many teams either don’t have the resources necessary to consistently keep up, or don’t prioritize it,” said Zend Product Manager Matthew Weier O’Phinney. “This leaves them in a precarious position – one that exposes their applications to potentially dangerous vulnerabilities.”

While 68% of respondents did note an upgrade planned within the next 12 months, over half reported committing 25% or less of their development time to maintenance tasks like migrations. Echoing that sentiment, respondents reported building new features as more important than application security.

“It’s clear from this survey data that some PHP teams are forced to make hard decisions when it comes to developing their applications – do they ensure their applications are secure and risk falling behind their competitors? Or do they focus on creating new features and ignore potential exposure to vulnerabilities,” continued Matthew Weier O’Phinney. “Luckily there are options that can help companies do both – like commercial PHP LTS and migration services from Zend.”

The report also looked at trends in PHP containerization and orchestration. Over 57% of respondents reported use of containerization technologies, with over 47% currently using orchestration technologies. The survey data also showed a clear correlation between company size and adoption, with larger companies much more likely to be using containerization and orchestration technologies.

“PHP teams continue to break the mold when it comes to containerization and orchestration adoption,” said Matthew Weier O’Phinney. “While larger organizations in the software application industry are typically slow to adopt these trends, large PHP teams are early and eager adopters.”

As with previous years, Zend used the survey to raise money for a technology-related non-profit. The 2023 survey raised money for Code2040, a non-profit that works to dismantle the structural barriers that prevent the full participation and leadership of Black and Latinx people in the innovation economy.

Killexams : Certification Requirements

Certification now follows a rolling model for applications and approvals. If you have questions after reviewing this website, please contact cert@nullesa.org or 202-833-8773.

The period of certification lasts for 5 years, retroactive to the first day of the month the application was approved and expiring on final day of the same month 5 years hence. ESA staff will communicate with you about your status beginning at least 60 days prior to expiration, and will additionally remind you to submit your CEU data on a regular basis.

If you currently hold a certification from pre-2021 and will expire the next June from now, you should recertify in the spring of the year your certification expires; if your certification expired in the previous June, you may still recertify or upgrade.

We allow 2 years’ grace periods to recertify or upgrade, but you will be required to pay a penalty fee if your certification has lapsed beyond that grace period. All recertifications at all levels (except Emeritus) cost $25 for ESA Members and $50 for non-members.

Starting in 2022, the penalty fee is the cost of recertification for each year of lapse, with the first 2 years waived if you recertify within 2 years. In other words:

0 yr lapsed: $25 for recertify

1 yr lapsed: $25 for recertify (1 yr of back recertification fees waived)

2 yr lapsed: $25 for recertify (2 yr of back recertification fees waived)

3 yr lapsed: $75 for recertify

4 yr lapsed: $100 for recertify

  • Professional experience accrues as soon as the minimum education requirements are met (typically with an appropriate bachelor’s degree). Professional experience during graduate studies shall be counted the same as any other professional experience regardless of whether it was undertaken during a degree program such as a master’s or doctoral program.
  • For recertifications, courses completed as part of a graduate degree program (or outside a degree program) may be counted toward continuing education in the appropriate category.
  • If courses during graduate training are used to satisfy the minimum education requirements, professional work experience may be counted after the last such course is successfully completed.
  • Provide an appropriate explanation of time spent in full-time employment (e.g. if working through school, during a gap year, etc.) in your application.
  • Length of experience will be evaluated only up to the application submission date.

Continuing Education

Please note that beginning 2021, all newly certified ecologists are required to complete 44 continuing education units over 5 years to be eligible for recertification or upgrade. Currently certified ecologists will be permitted to recertify or upgrade per their original requirements up to 2025; beginning with 2026, all recertifications and upgrades will require having met the CEU requirements. The ESA Board of Professional Certification approved this framework in January 2021.

Certified ecologists should report their CEU as they are earned, or at least on an annual basis. You can see how to do so here.

Interpretive leeway will be given to participants to identify suitable professional development opportunities per the requirements. ESA is partnering with other scientific organizations and training bodies to recommend opportunities for CEU in addition to the content that ESA provides — see the directory. Participants are encouraged to share ideas with staff as well.

Killexams : Course Certification

What is course certification?

The purpose of the USATF course certification program is to produce road race courses of accurately measured distances.

For any road running performance to be accepted as a record or be nationally ranked, it must be run on a USATF-certified course. In addition, the certification program is very important to the average road racer, as well as those of exceptional speed. Most runners like to compare performances run on different courses, and such comparisons are difficult if course distances are not reliable. No one can truly establish a personal best if the course distance is not accurate.

A Macquarie University study of breast implants gone wrong has found that patients with complications occurring within five years of implantation were twice as likely to have used non-certified surgeons.

The study, published in the latest Aesthetic Surgery Journal and co-authored by surgeon Professor Anand Deva, analyzed data from a survey of more than 600 women who attended the Breast Implant Clinic at Macquarie University in 2018.

Patients who came to the clinic, which Deva describes as a world-first, had lived with their implant for an average of 11 years and had an average age of 42. The study showed that most experienced breast pain and/or a problem with the implant and the most common complication was capsular contracture, affecting more than 90% of clinic .

"Capsular contracture is where the shell of the implant becomes creased or folded instead of sitting smoothly within the body, and then contracts and becomes hardened," says Professor Anand Deva, who is Head of Cosmetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Macquarie University.

Visible deformities were also common, with almost a third of patients having the "waterfall deformity," where can sag over the implant, and about one in eight patients having "double bubble" where the implant is displaced, slipping below the breast.

Credit: Macquarie University

Patients have poor awareness of risks

Deva says the data was collected from more than 600 women who gave their consent for researchers to gather useful data about adverse events following breast implant .

He says there was "poor awareness universally" about the risks of among patients.

"Many patients were also told not to have recommended cancer screening mammograms following breast implant surgery, which is incorrect," says Deva.

"One thing that stood out is that procedures by certified carried a significantly lower risk of 'double bubble' and 'waterfall' complications, which can involve implant malposition and deformity," he says.

More than half the implants in women attending the clinic who had cosmetic procedures in Australia were inserted by doctors who were not qualified specialists, having either general medical registration or general practice registration.

Profit-driven clinics

Deva says the breast assessment clinic also revealed some concerning data about a subset of medical practitioners who had worked at the now-defunct cut-price breast implant clinic chain, The Cosmetic Institute—the subject of a current class action.

Most of these doctors only held Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) general registration, and had not completed any specialist training after their internship and residency.

"The lack of recognized and relative lack of experience by unqualified practitioners probably contributed to poor outcomes for many patients subject to invasive surgery," says Deva.

One in five women attending the breast assessment clinic had traveled overseas to get breast implants in "fly-in, fly-out" discounted arrangements where patients may only meet their surgeon just before their pre-paid operation, by which stage "fully informed patient consent" is less likely.

Australian research into medical tourism for breast implant surgery has shown that complications are common, and range from wound infection to serious outcomes including sepsis, radical mastectomy, brain injury and death.

Patients who return from overseas surgery with problems can also burden the Australian health system with the cost of treating these complications, Deva says.

No lifetime guarantee

Breast augmentation is the most common elective plastic surgery performed in the world after liposuction.

About 73% of the 65,000 breast implant patients recorded in the Australian Breast Device Registry (ABDR) between 2012 and 2020 had surgery for cosmetic reasons, with the rest being post-cancer and other medical reconstruction. About a quarter of these cosmetic procedures involved surgery to correct or remove breast implants.

Deva says the ABDR was established in 2012 to record all breast implants and implant revision surgery in Australian women, following a series of crises around breast implant safety.

These included the failure of French company Poly Implant Prothese (PIP), which sold more than 300,000 implants containing poor-quality silicon, and had nearly 1,000 cases of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) reported globally.

"The registry meant that for the first time, we could understand the performance of these devices," he says—but adds the registry doesn't include the significant portion of implants now done overseas.

Revision surgery is common

After nine years, the registry shows that an increasing proportion of women with implants are undergoing revision surgeries.

Deva says most first-generation implants from the 1960s lasted just a few years and their thin shells often contracted and ruptured, but today's "fifth generation" of implants have more robust shells.

But while many breast implant manufacturers promise a lifetime warranty, Deva warns these guarantees have many loopholes and capsular contracture—the most common defect—is not covered.

"Our experience suggests that most implants fail over time, not just from device failure, but also from changes to the breast structure through breastfeeding, aging, menopause—just general wear and tear," he says.

"After around 10 years, there's a slow and steady accumulation of problems that will eventually require the implant to be removed or replaced."

Deva says that the Macquarie University breast implant assessment clinic provides a useful service where women can have their implants reviewed regularly, and there's a need for similar services to be established more widely.

"Our data also shows that there are still a lot of cowboys out there, and that better regulation of elective cosmetic procedures is necessary," he says.

Killexams : Care about your heart? Try getting better sleep, new study suggests

A group of researchers at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health evaluated the American Heart Association’s recently expanded metric — which now includes sleep as it relates to cardiovascular disease risk.

The study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association provided evidence that sleep plays an important role when it comes to heart health

"Our results show that sleep health is integral to heart health, and that an expanded definition of cardiovascular health that includes sleep is more predictive of future heart disease risk," lead study author Nour Makarem, PhD, an assistant professor of epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University in New York City, told Fox News Digital.

A STRESSFUL MARRIAGE MAY HARM YOUR HEART HEALTH, STUDY FINDS

"Our study supports the inclusion of sleep as the novel 8th metric of cardiovascular health," Makarem also said.

The study represents the first examination of adding sleep to the American Heart Association’s original Life’s Simple 7 metrics as a novel 8th metric of cardiovascular health, the study author said.

The new sleep metric suggests 7-9 hours of sleep daily for optimal cardiovascular health for adults — and more hours of sleep for children, depending on their age. (BSIP/Universal Images Group via Getty Images)

Sleep was recently added to the American Heart Association’s Life’s Simple 7 measures, a checklist-type of scoring tool used to assess an individual’s cardiovascular health risk.

The new sleep metric suggests 7-9 hours of sleep daily for optimal cardiovascular health for adults, and more for children depending on age, according to the American Heart Association’s statement about the revised metrics.

NOISY NEIGHBORS UPSTAIRS? EFFORTS ARE UNDERWAY TO PROTECT YOUR HEALTH FROM ‘IMPACT SOUNDS’: NEW STUDY

The previous checklist included measures such as nicotine exposure, physical activity, diet, weight, blood glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure.

The tool that includes sleep is now referred to as the Life’s Essential 8.™

The Columbia University researchers, deciding to evaluate the expanded measure, looked at approximately 2,000 middle-aged-to-older adults from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerois (MESA), a U.S. study of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors.

For a new study on sleep and heart health, participants shared data on their sleep characteristics and took part in a sleep exam.  (iStock)

The participants provided data on their sleep characteristics and took part in a sleep exam, according to the news release from Columbia University.

THE BEST FOODS FOR A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP

The investigators examined cardiovascular health scores that included the original American Heart Association’s Life’s Simple 7 (LS7) metrics, along with different sleep health measures to determine the sleep parameters that should be a priority for preventing cardiovascular disease.

"Our results highlight the importance of embracing a holistic vision of sleep health."

Cardiovascular health scores that looked at different dimensions of sleep such as sleep duration, efficiency, sleep regularity, sleep disorders and daytime sleepiness — as well as cardiovascular health scores that included duration of sleep only as a measure of sleep health — were both predictive of cardiovascular disease (CVD), the researchers found.

"The most important advice when it comes to promoting sleep health is to make sleep a priority." (iStock)

The study found that sleeping 7 hours or more but less than 9 hours each night was considered indicative of ideal sleep health.

"Our results demonstrate that sleep is an integral component of CVH. In our study, even a CVH score that includes only sleep duration, the most widely measured aspect of sleep health and the most feasible measure to obtain in a clinic or public health setting, predicted CVD incidence," said Makarem in the Columbia news release.

GET BETTER SLEEP AT NIGHT WITH THE HELP OF 10 SMART PRODUCTS

"Notably, we also found that a CVH score that incorporated multiple dimensions of sleep health was also significantly associated with incident CVD," she said.

"Our results highlight the importance of embracing a holistic vision of sleep health that includes sleep behaviors and highly prevalent, mild sleep problems — rather than strictly focusing on sleep disorders when assessing an individual’s cardiovascular risk."

"Sleep seems to be the first thing that people squeeze out of their schedules when they are busy. [But] the first step to healthy sleep is making time for sleep …"

Individuals who slept fewer hours had higher chances of having low sleep efficiency (defined as less than 85% time in bed after lights off spent sleeping), the news release explained about the study's findings.

HOW TO TRACK SLEEP ON YOUR APPLE WATCH

Also, those with less sleep duration were likely to have irregular sleep patterns — meaning variations in sleep duration and timing — across days.

They were also likely to experience excessive daytime sleepiness and sleep apnea, the release said.

Multiple unhealthy sleep dimensions may occur — which could further increase the risk of heart disease, a new study has found.  (iStock)

Findings also revealed a higher prevalence of Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and obesity/overweight in those considered "short duration sleepers."

This suggested that multiple unhealthy sleep dimensions may occur simultaneously and interact — which could further increase the risk for heart disease, the release said.

Sixty-three percent of participants slept less than 7 hours per night and 30% slept less than 6 hours, the study found.

The study also found that 14% of the participants reported excessive daytime sleepiness — and 36% stated they had high insomnia symptoms.

It also found that 39% had high night-to-night variability in sleep duration and 25% had a high variation in sleep timing.

The study also found that 14% reported excessive daytime sleepiness and 36% stated they had high insomnia symptoms.

In addition, the study found 47% of the people who participated had moderate-to-severe sleep apnea (OSA).

"Stick to a stable sleep schedule — meaning try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day," said a new study's lead author on sleep and heart health. (iStock)

"The most important advice when it comes to promoting sleep health is to make sleep a priority," said Makarem to Fox News Digital.

"Sleep seems to be the first thing that people squeeze out of their schedules when they are busy. However, the first step to healthy sleep is making time for sleep to ensure that you get 7-8 hours of sleep each night, the ideal sleep duration for promoting heart health."

It's important to practice good sleep hygiene, which means putting yourself in the best position to sleep well by optimizing your sleep schedule, bedtime routine and sleep environment, the lead author told Fox News Digital.

There are a few ways to get better sleep habits, she said.

"Optimize your sleep environment by making your bedroom comfortable, quiet, cool and dark."

"Stick to a stable sleep schedule, meaning try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, and try to keep the same sleep schedule on weekdays and weekends to avoid disrupting your body clock's sleep-wake rhythm," she said.

"Use the hour before bedtime to relax and unwind, and optimize your sleep environment by making your bedroom comfortable, quiet, cool and dark."

Makarem also suggested getting rid of distractions such as bright light and noise.

SLEEP DISRUPTIONS MAY BE LINKED TO MENTAL HEALTH DISORDERS, SAYS NEW STUDY

"Avoid sources of bright light such as computers, TVs and phones before bedtime. Also, try to drown out any noise by using earplugs or a white noise machine, and avoid stimulants such as nicotine and caffeine," she told Fox News Digital.

Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel, weighing in on the study, said that sleep is a time for the heart and brain to repair.

"Sleep is a rejuvenating time for the heart and brain."

"When you are sleeping, hormones are released, including oxytocin, that are cardio-protective and promote heart healing," he told Fox News Digital.

"When you are awake, especially when you are anxious, stress hormones are released, which increase heart rate blood pressure and overall stress on the heart."

Dr. Siegel added, "Sleep is a rejuvenating time for the heart and brain."

A little boy yawns and sleeps in his bed while snuggling a stuffed animal. Those who slept less "than the recommended amount were found to have higher rates of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure," said one medical professional about the new study out of Columbia University in New York City.  (iStock)

Dr. Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, director of Mount Sinai Heart and a Dr. Valentin Fuster Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Health System in New York City, told Fox News Digital, "This is a very informative study that shows an association between insufficient sleep duration (defined here as less than 7 hours or more than 9 hours) and worse cardiovascular health."

He said as well, "People who slept less than the recommended amount were also found to have higher rates of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure, which are well-established risk factors for heart disease as well."

"Insufficient sleep doesn't get the respect it deserves as a cardiovascular risk factor."

Bhatt was not part of the study but was a senior author on the American Heart Association scientific statement on sleep and cardio metabolic risk.

He also said, "Insufficient sleep doesn't get the respect it deserves as a cardiovascular risk factor." He added that he hopes "studies such as this one will change societal attitudes about the importance of a good night's sleep."

What Is PMP Certification?

Professional certifications verify your career skills and allow you to learn more about important concepts and industry best practices that can help in your day-to-day operations.

PMP certification is the most widely recognized in the world of project management. It’s available through the Project Management Institute (PMI), which publishes the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK). The PMBOK is the holy grail of knowledge when it comes to project management concepts.

PMP certification demonstrates a strong understanding of the concepts set forth in the PMBOK and other reference materials. This designation can help you distinguish yourself from your peers and gain respected credentials in your field. Along the way, you’ll learn about concepts like Agile, waterfall project scheduling, leadership and business management.

How to Sign Up for PMP Certification

The first step to earning PMP certification is to begin work in the field of project management. PMP certification requires months of work experience. Precise requirements vary depending on your level of education. If you have a bachelor’s degree, you’ll need 36 months of relevant project experience to qualify for the PMP credential. Without a degree, you must complete 60 months of experience.

If you have this work experience or are working toward it, the next step is to complete at least 35 hours of formal PMP training, also called “contact hours,” or hold a current CAPM certification. You can complete contact hours through a PMP certification course, which you may take online or in person. These courses take a few weeks to a few months to complete, and they teach the concepts you should understand before taking the PMP certification exam.

Below, we’ll discuss how to get a PMP certification in more detail, including prerequisites and PMP test costs.

PMP Certification Requirements

You must accomplish a certain amount of professional experience and formal training before you qualify for PMP certification.

If you have completed high school or an associate degree but not a bachelor’s, PMP certification requirements are as follows.

  • 60 months leading projects
  • 35 contact hours

If you have a bachelor’s degree, you must complete the following before pursuing PMP certification.

  • 36 months leading projects
  • 35 contact hours

PMP Cost

Most PMP certification training programs (through which you can earn your contact hours) range in cost from around $300 to around $3,000. Courses offered through well-known colleges and universities tend to cost more, but many also offer for-credit programs that result in undergraduate or graduate certificates. Consider a program that holds GAC accreditation when searching for courses. Free PMP certification training is available through some resources, but usually only for short trial periods.

To sit for the exam, the cost is $405 for PMI members or $555 for nonmembers.

PMP Time Commitment

How long does it take to get PMP certification? The most time-consuming part of the PMP certification process is completing the required work experience. Consider documenting your work experience as soon as you consider applying for PMP certification. Once you get that experience under your belt, the rest of the certification process involves studying and scheduling your test. The time spent on this step can be different for each individual, as well as dependent on location and testing center availability.

Most PMP certification training courses take only a few weeks to a few months to complete. After that, it’s up to you how much time you spend studying for the certification exam. Retakes cost $275 for PMI members and $375 for nonmembers, so it’s best to go into the test as prepared as possible.

PMP Renewal Costs

Once you’ve passed the PMP exam, you must complete a certain level of continuing education to keep your certification active. The renewal fee, due every three years, is $60 for PMI members or $150 for nonmembers.

Is PMP Certification Worth It?

To determine whether PMP certification is worth it to you, weigh the costs of certification against the potential benefits. Since we’ve listed the costs of PMP certification above, you likely have a good idea of the investment you’d need to make to get certified. Now, it’s time to consider your potential return on that investment.

Benefits of PMP certification

  • Salary increase. PMPs in the U.S. earn about 32% more than their non-certified peers in project management.
  • Greater respect in the industry. The Project Management Institute is the leading organization for project management knowledge and the publisher of the PMBOK. Earning PMP certification through PMI carries lots of weight in the project management industry.
  • Greater career opportunities. Holding PMP certification should make you more marketable when it comes to looking for better or different positions in project management.

Consider Your Career

Are you looking to make a career change? Move into a higher role in your current team? In either case, PMP certification could be just what you need to level up your career. As part of the certification process, you’ll learn industry best practices that you can start incorporating into your day-to-day work life immediately.

Look at Earning Potential vs. Certification Cost

According to PMI, PMP-certified professionals in the U.S. earn a median annual salary of $123,000, compared to a median of $93,000 for their non-certified colleagues. This translates to a 32% salary increase for certified PMPs.

Multiply your current salary by 1.32 to estimate your potential PMP certification salary. You can then weigh that salary increase against the cost of PMP certification training and the PMP exam. This cost vs. benefit analysis can help you understand whether PMP certification would be worth it for you.

What Is PMP Certification?

PMP is considered the gold standard in the field of project management. PMI, the leading organization in project management, administers this certification. PMI publishes the Project Management Book of Knowledge, which establishes best practices for project management specialists.

PMP certification demonstrates that you have up-to-date knowledge of modern concepts in project management and scheduling. This credential is widely recognized and can help you stand out against other project management workers.

Getting PMP-certified can help you learn about concepts like Agile, waterfall project scheduling, leadership and business management. Moreover, PMI reports that globally, project managers who hold PMP certification make about 16% more each year than their non-certified peers. In the U.S., PMPs make 32% more than non-certified project management specialists.

PMP Certification Salary

PMP certification salary statistics show that this certification is well worth the effort for many professionals. According to PMI, non-certified project managers in the U.S. earn a median annual salary of $93,000. PMPs earn a median wage of $123,000 per year—a 32% increase over their non-certified colleagues.

This PMP certification salary increase is justified by the following:

  • PMP certification equips you to effectively lead a team.
  • PMP certification gives you the skills to reduce project spending and increase company profits.
  • Most companies are relying more heavily on project-oriented scheduling and task distribution.
  • PMP certification can help you lead your company to a higher return on their  investment.

PMP Certification Requirements

The PMP certification process involves a combination of work experience, targeted training and a certification exam. Below, we’ll break down how to get PMP certification, including the experience and credentials required.

Work Experience

The PMP certification process begins with several years of relevant work experience. Candidates with high school diplomas or associate degrees must have five years of experience leading projects before they can apply to take the PMP exam. Those with bachelor’s degrees need only three years of project management experience.

Project Management Training

Before sitting for the PMP exam, you must complete 35 “contact hours,” or professional development through a PMP certification training course. You may complete these hours either online or in person. Tuition rates for these courses vary. Free PMP certification training is available, but usually on a trial basis only.

Application Processing Time

How long does it take to get PMP certification exam-approved? Once you’re ready to sit for the PMP exam, you must apply to do so through PMI. This process involves submitting a PDF application along with documentation to show relevant work experience. It typically takes three to five days to hear back from PMI regarding the status of your application.

Study Time

Once you’ve met the experience and education requirements for the PMP exam, you should set aside additional time to study for the exam. While there’s no set or “correct” amount of time to spend on PMP test prep, you should prepare yourself as much as possible by browsing a study guide and taking practice exams.
