Extended Car Warranty Ratings

We carefully considered the following factors to determine the best extended auto warranty providers:

  • Reputation: Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings, longevity, and industry standing
  • Coverage: Variety of plan choices, maximum mileage covered, and perks
  • Price: Total cost, deductible options, and payment terms
  • Customer Experience: Customer ratings from the BBB and Trustpilot, 30-day money-back guarantees, and customer service availability

Best Extended Car Warranties

While the brands mentioned in the table above all offer exceptional coverage at competitive rates, the provider that’s best for you will depend on your needs. Endurance warranties top our list for the most comprehensive coverage options, but if you are looking for cheaper basic coverage, you might consider CarShield.

The sections below provide a detailed overview of the top five extended car warranty companies.

#1 Endurance: Best Coverage (4.6 Stars)

Endurance Warranty services holds the number one position in our industry-wide study of the best extended car warranty companies. Endurance is a direct warranty provider, meaning it administers its own contracts and handles all claims and customer service related to the contracts it sells in-house.

This stands out because most auto warranty providers broker plans from other companies and act solely as an intermediary, leading to less consistent coverage than that provided by Endurance. Endurance handles all claims itself, with no middleman involved. The company is known for its wide coverage offerings and strong company service.

Endurance Reputation

Endurance has provided extended car warranties to drivers for 16 years. These vehicle service contracts are available in 49 states, excluding California.

Endurance does not have as high of a rating from the BBB as some of the other providers on our list. In the past, the provider dealt with alerts from the BBB regarding its advertising. Most recently, there are complaints about Endurance regarding aggressive mailers. However, the warranty provider is highly regarded by customers and there are few unresolved complaints about claims issues.

Endurance is backed by an A-rated insurance company and is fully capable of meeting all claims obligations. Like all our recommended providers, Endurance pays for covered repairs upfront, minus your deductible.

Endurance Coverage

Endurance offers six levels of extended warranty coverage that can last up to 200,000 miles, which makes it a good option for extended warranties for cars over 100k miles. Here’s a summary of Endurance’s plans:

Component Secure Secure Plus Select Premier Superior Supreme
Drive Axle(s)
Engine
Transfer Case
Transmission
Turbo/ Supercharger
Air Conditioning
Electrical Components
Brakes
Steering
Cooling System
Fuel System
Gaskets
Suspension

All Endurance plans come with rental car reimbursement, 24//7 roadside assistance, and trip interruption coverage as standard benefits.

The Endurance Elite plan benefits set Endurance apart from other companies in the industry. These benefits are included in all Endurance warranties free for one year. After that, you can pay to add them to your protection plan. Endurance Elite benefits include:

  • Total loss protection: Up to $1,000 reimbursement to replace vehicle
  • Collision discount: $500 per covered collision (1,000 limit)
  • Tire repair/replacement: Reimbursement for up to 2 replaced or repaired tires per year.

In addition, Endurance extended warranty plans allow customers to choose from any ASE® (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) certified repair shop in the U.S. This makes it much easier to find a repair shop that will help with covered repairs no matter where you experience a mechanical breakdown.

Endurance Plans

The table below shows which parts are covered in each Endurance plan:

Endurance Plan Recommended For Details
Supreme Factory-warranty-style exclusionary coverage The most extensive plan with bumper-to-bumper protection
Superior The most stated-component coverage Covers hundreds of parts for most major systems
Secure Plus Mid-level option with the shortest waiting period for coverage. (Fast Coverage) Covers steering, electrical, and brakes with a shorter waiting period (30 days and 1,000 miles) than the Select Premier plan
Select Premier Enhanced powertrain coverage for high-mileage vehicles. Covers basic powertrain components
Secure The most affordable coverage option Covers the basic powertrain components (engine, transmission, and drivetrain)
EnduranceAdvantage™ Aftermarket auto warranty and maintenance coverage Combines mechanical breakdown coverage
with maintenance services like oil changes

Endurance Car Warranty Cost

While Endurance offers extensive warranty coverage, its prices aren’t the most competitive. Endurance warranty plans are sometimes cheaper than most, but shorter coverage terms can sometimes negate this.

That said, many car owners find affordable plans through Endurance. In our research, we found that a reliable car still under its factory warranty can get six years of exclusionary coverage for about $2,850. That’s on par with quotes we received from other providers.

The company also offers four deductible options (ranging from $0 to $200), which influence the total cost of the plan. A higher deductible will mean a lower premium. Endurance offers flexible, zero-interest payment terms with payment period options that include 12, 18, or 24 month terms.

Customer Experience

Unlike many aftermarket extended car warranty providers, Endurance offers direct-to-consumer extended warranties. Because Endurance handles all claims itself, all of the customer service related to an Endurance warranty comes directly from the provider.

There’s no go-between or separate underwriter, and many of the positive Endurance warranty reviews focus on excellent customer service during the quotes and claims processes.

Endurance has a rating of “Excellent” with a 4.2-star rating out of 5.0 from over 4,400 warranty reviews on Trustpilot. It also has a 3.4-star rating out of 5.0 from BBB customer reviews.

You can read more about the company in our in-depth Endurance warranty review.
