Here’s a two-word summary: pretty well!

Upon opening the box you definitely get the feeling that this is more Timex than Rolex: It’s a mass-market device aimed at everyday consumers who don’t necessarily need (or even want) a premium laptop. It’s quite plasticy with a bit of flex to it. It sounds hollow when you tap it. The bezel (the border that frames the display itself) is pretty big compared with higher-end laptops. It’s covered in stickers.

All of the above are signs of a laptop that was designed to hit a low price. But you know what? When you’re actually using the laptop, it isn’t half bad.

In terms of specs, it has an Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of memory, and 256GB of solid-state storage. On paper, you’d be forgiven for thinking the laptop would be somewhat underwhelming.

Guess again. Browsing around the web, even on today’s ad-laden websites, proceeds smoothly. Watching HD video on YouTube is more or less identical to the experience you’d get on a much more powerful PC (such as the gaming PC this review is being written on), although you can really hear the laptop’s fans whirring while doing so.

Switching between different apps like Edge, Adobe Photoshop Elements, and Word either using the keyboard shortcut alt-tab or by clicking the Windows Task Bar? No problems there, showing that despite being a lower-priced laptop, its everyday performance is more than adequate.

If you’re the type of person who immediately downloads a tool like GeekBench or Prime95 to see how fast your computer actually is, well, none of this may be too impressive. But if you’re not that person (and most of us aren’t), then it’s hard to find much fault here.

Killexams : Viewpoint: Investigating web data for brand protection purposes

The World Wide Web is the ideal place for “hijacking” brands, mostly because the online world has seen so little formal policing. According to the Chamber of Ecommerce, counterfeit sales today represent 5 to 7 per cent of total world trade in merchandise. The damage inflicted to rightful brand owners goes well beyond revenue and profits: it also threatens national security and human rights. Due to the Internet’s rapid growth—along with instant global reach and anonymity— this situation has significantly escalated.

The number of online spaces available for taking unfair advantage of legitimate brands keeps growing: search engines, social networking, eCommerce, auction and trade board sites, email, blogs, and microblogs. As a result, the online world requires ever closer monitoring and investigation.

In general, by investigation we mean attempts to find correlations between various pieces of data that will be able to bring us some valuable conclusion or insight.

Correlation is an important word here, since the reality of online investigations, as many of us know, are not always conclusive. Most of the time, such attempts only uncover commonalities, for example, linkages between objects that might be flagged as anomalies. Then it much depends on a user's ability to analyse and piece together bits of information, in order to gain real value.

Fortunately, brand owners can adopt their own proven best practices to successfully fight online counterfeit sales. Technology exists for identifying and quantifying worldwide online counterfeiting activity—for both promotion and distribution. If brand owners are armed with the right tools, data and effective strategies – counterfeiters can be defeated.

Good practice for such endeavours online can be listed in the following steps:

  • Global Monitoring
  • Connecting the dots
  • Legal Enforcement

Step 1: Global Monitoring

Before fighting online scams relating to your brand, you need to be made aware that they exist and then monitor their activities ongoing. Unfortunately, it is quite hard to use ordinary search engines for that task for several reasons including ranking and geolocation. To be presented with a global overview, a search should also include sites that are non-indexed on Google.

A possible answer to those challenges could be scanning the HTML content of sites. HTML or meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page’s content; the meta tags don’t appear on the page itself, but only in the page’s source code. HTML data includes meta description, meta keywords, H1 titles etc. In simple terms, this data reflects up to 90% of the content of the website’s front page.

Using tools that allow you to look through the HTML data, it's possible to view keywords counterfeiters are using to target your brand. It is also important to view the historical change data and whether any other brands are mentioned alongside yours.

Perhaps the most important thing here is that this method allows brand protection certified to increase the efficiency of their work making it possible to scan more sites quicker and in less time.

Step 2: Connecting the dots

Once an entity taking advantage of your brand has been identified, further investigations can reveal whether any other sites are associated with it in order to connect the dots.

It is important to connect sites that possibly belong to the same owner so you can see the bigger picture.

DNS information, specifically information on IP addresses, makes it possible to find websites that belong to one owner or interconnected websites.

This is not always accurate however– shared hosting thousands of websites that belong to different owners can have the same IP address. Nevertheless, often sites that have the same IP address belong to a single owner, especially if there are not many of them.

Another good indicator is a shared Name Server. The combination of those two things - shared IP address and Name Server - can significantly narrow the search.

To investigate even deeper it is possible to check WHOIS history to get a summary of key data about the domain that comes from the WHOIS record itself serves as the jumping-off point for all kinds of investigations. Of course, information about the owner of the domain in the WHOIS records might be unavailable for most sites due to the use of the WHOIS protection service by the domain owner. However, it is possible to get the info on the registrar, creation and expiration dates which is publicly available.

This data can inform risk assessments, help profile attackers, guide online fraud investigations, and map cyber activity to attacker infrastructure.

Step 3: Legal Enforcement

After narrowing down the number of sites to handle, you can then:

  • Take Actions against ONE site and its other connected sites, social media accounts, payment facilities, HP and/or Registrar. Clients can sometimes join forces with other brands involved.
  • Take action together against numerous non-connected sites hosted on the same IP.
  • Instigate legal action to seize domain names in bulk plus seize assets (i.e., court requests to freeze all PayPal or Mastercard accounts.)
  • Request Google to deindex all domain names with high or low visibility when it's not possible to connect to syndicates.
  • Take action at shopping carts level, i.e., request Magento to block e-commerce services for all sites flagged as selling counterfeit product.

Online counterfeiting can heavily impact any company, affecting revenues, channel relationships, customer experience, marketing effectiveness, legal liability and more. Ignoring it—or just hoping for the best—simply isn’t good business. Fortunately, taking direct action can be fairly straightforward. Implementing best practices as discussed here doesn’t have to involve complex organizational changes or extensive hiring efforts, as data technology providers can help make the effort efficient and supplement internal teams.

Which actions, practices, routines could we suggest in order to help brand owners to protect themselves? There are many. Generally, we would suggest following rules for example:

  • Understand and know what you are looking for. What do counterfeiting sites look like? What extent is your brand being impacted?
  • Use HTML tools & data to identify suspect profiles.
  • Target domains which have hidden a brand's name in the HTML.
  • Investigate further with WHOIS and DNS record checks.
  • Identify domain ownership, and track it over time, revealing which other domains are related to the same owner. Do this with the help of IP address look ups, Name servers etc.
  • Take action to shut down offending sites implementing legal steps.

The returns—in revenues, profits, and long-term brand value—will certainly make the effort worthwhile.

Killexams : How To Remove Personal Information From Google Search Results

It's important to note that while Google can generally help you clean up your online presence by limiting search results, it cannot directly remove content that appears on websites or shut down the websites themselves. That's because Google Search results merely point users to websites offering the content they search for; Google can control whether it directs users to that site, but it cannot control the website itself. As a result, some people may still be able to find your information on that website if they use a search engine other than Google, such as Bing.

If your removal request has been denied by Google or if you want the content removed from the website itself regardless, Google suggests that you reach out directly to the website's owner and ask them to take down content related to you. If the site administrator acknowledges your request and removes your personal information, it will no longer be accessible to users even if they search using a search engine other than Google.

Killexams : Go Update iOS, Chrome, and HP Computers to Fix Serious Flaws

None of the issues patched by Google are known to have been exploited in attacks, but if the update is available to you, it’s a good idea to apply it as soon as possible.

Microsoft Patch Tuesday is an important one because it comes with a fix for a flaw already being used in attacks. The zero-day vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2022-37969, is a privilege escalation issue in the Windows Common Log File System Driver that could allow an adversary to take control of the machine.

The zero-day is among 63 vulnerabilities patched by Microsoft, including five rated as critical. These include CVE-2022-34722 and CVE-2022-34721, remote code execution (RCE) flaws in the Windows Internet Key Exchange Protocol (IKE) which both have a CVSS score of 9.8.

Later in September, Microsoft issued an out-of-band security update for a spoofing vulnerability in its Endpoint Configuration Manager tracked as CVE 2022 37972.

Encrypted messaging service WhatsApp has released an update to fix two vulnerabilities that could result in remote code execution. CVE-2022-36934 is an integer overflow issue in WhatsApp for Android prior to v2.22.16.12, Business for Android prior to v2.22.16.12, iOS prior to v2.22.16.12, and Business for iOS prior to v2.22.16.12, which could result in remote code execution in a video call.

Meanwhile, CVE-2022-27492 is an integer underflow flaw in WhatsApp for Android prior to v2.22.16.2 and WhatsApp for iOS v2.22.15.9 that could have caused remote code execution for someone receiving a crafted video file, according to the WhatsApp security advisory.

WhatsApp patched these flaws about a month ago, so if you are running the current version, you should be safe.

HP has fixed a serious issue in the support assistant tool that comes preinstalled on all of its laptops. The privilege escalation bug in HP Support Assistant is ranked as a high-severity issue and is tracked as CVE-2022-38395.

HP has released only limited details about the vulnerability on its support page, but it goes without saying that those with affected equipment should ensure they update now.

SAP’s September Patch Day saw the release of 16 new and updated patches, including three high-priority fixes for SAP Business One, SAP BusinessObjects, and SAP GRC.

The SAP Business One fix, which patches an Unquoted Service Path vulnerability, is the most critical of the three. Attackers could exploit the flaw “to execute an arbitrary binary file when the vulnerable service starts, which could allow it to escalate privileges to SYSTEM,” security firm Onapsis says.

A second fix for SAP BusinessObjects patches an information disclosure vulnerability. “Under certain conditions, the vulnerability allows an attacker to gain access to unencrypted sensitive information in the Central Management Console of SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform,” says Onapsis in its blog.

The third High Priority Note affecting SAP GRC customers could allow an authenticated attacker to access a Firefighter session even after it is closed in Firefighter Logon Pad.

Software giant Cisco has issued a patch to fix a high-severity security issue in the binding configuration of SD-WAN vManage software containers. Tracked as CVE-2022-20696, the flaw could allow an unauthenticated attacker who has access to the VPN0 logical network to access the messaging service ports on an affected system.

“A successful exploit could allow the attacker to view and inject messages into the messaging service, which can cause configuration changes or cause the system to reload,” Cisco warned in an advisory.

Security company Sophos has just fixed an RCE flaw in its firewall product that it says is already being used in attacks. Tracked as CVE-2022-3236, the code injection vulnerability was discovered in the User Portal and Webadmin of Sophos Firewall.

“Sophos has observed this vulnerability being used to target a small set of specific organizations, primarily in the South Asia region,” the firm said in a security advisory.

WP Gateway WordPress Plugin

A vulnerability in a WordPress plugin called AP Gateway is already being used in attacks. Tracked as CVE-2022-3180, the privilege escalation bug could allow attackers to add a malicious user with admin privileges to take over sites running the plugin.

“As this is an actively exploited zero-day vulnerability, and attackers are already aware of the mechanism required to exploit it, we are releasing this public service announcement to all of our users,” said Ram Gall, a Wordfence senior threat analyst, adding that certain details have been withheld intentionally to prevent further exploitation.

Killexams : Google Search adds expanded sustainability info for your online shopping, transportation, and recipe needs

Google is adding new ways for users to choose sustainable options when searching, with a suite of new information panels and eco-friendly markers placed directly in search results.

Based on an increase in search interest for terms like "electric vehicles," "solar energy," and "thrift stores," along with the escalating climate crisis, the search engine will now mark used and pre-owned products (like used vehicles and clothing), include additional specs on electric vehicles and comparisons when users shop for cars, and even provide sustainability information for food items in Google recipes.

Google has made similar updates and eco-conscious pledges in the past. In 2020, the company committed to run all of its data centers and campuses on carbon-free energy by 2030. In 2021, the search engine unveiled its first iteration of the new sustainability tools, including information on carbon impact and sustainability initiatives while users book flights and hotels. The site also added additional context to user searches for "climate change," which link to authoritative climate and climate news sources.

"People come to search during the critical moments that matter," said Hema Budaraju, senior director of product for Health & Search Social Impact at Google, in a call with Mashable. "Climate change is the defining call of our generation, and it requires all of us to take actions, big and small. Many people might not know where to start, and people are coming to Google for answers."

Eco-friendly vehicles and routes

For those in the electric vehicle market, Google Search results will display expanded information menus featuring estimated fuel costs, range and charging speeds, and even public charging stations near you that are compatible with each electric vehicle.

Searchers in the U.S. will also see information on federal tax incentives for electric vehicles.

In addition to search results, Google is prioritizing environmentally-friendly options for all vehicle-related needs.

In March 2021, Google unveiled its eco-friendly route option for Maps users, which suggests "cleaner" or more fuel-efficient routes using insights from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the European Environment Agency. The option considers road conditions, topography, and traffic and congestion to lower a driver's carbon emissions along their route. When the eco-friendly route is the fastest, Maps defaults to that option, but when it's not, a user gets to see the potential environmental impact and weigh their options.

According to Google, users have been making the more fuel-efficient choice. The company estimates that having the environmentally friendly choice available reduced vehicle carbon emissions by half a million metric tons since its launch, or the equivalent of taking 100,000 fuel-based cars off the road. The company explained to Mashable that this data only includes users that intentionally chose eco-friendly routes when there was another speedier option.

Building on this, Google Maps users can now choose their engine type when searching for routes to customize an even cleaner route to their destination. These tools are also being made available to companies, like delivery or ride-sharing services, for use in their own apps.

Sustainable clothes shopping

Google Search results will highlight pre-owned or used clothing options when people shop from the Google homepage, which the company says will help empower users to reduce the impact of overconsumption, textile waste, and global carbon emissions created by the fashion industry.

When scrolling through shopping listings, users can spot a small green leaf next to pre-owned resale clothing options.

Environmentally conscious food choices

When users search for certain food recipes, like "vegan curry," “bean recipes,” or “broccoli chicken,” Google Search will also show the environmental impact of various food choices, such as the effect of different protein choices (read: the global impact of that food items' production and transportation) on greenhouse gas emissions.

When searching for recipes, users can find information about more sustainable food choices. Credit: Google

While responsibility for an unsustainable food (and clothing and vehicle) market certainly doesn't lie with individual consumers, the new Google tools put information in the hands of users who want to know more about the ways they consume, as well as the small choices one can make for more eco-conscious consumption.

The new features will roll out to U.S. users first, in English, followed by a larger global expansion in multiple languages.

Killexams : Maserati’s New 750 HP GranTurismo Folgore Is the Marque’s First EV—and Its Most Powerful Car Ever

The Maserati GranTurismo is back and the results are quite literally electric.

The brand’s sporty grand tourer will return to production for the 2024 model year. But this coupe will be available with either a twin-turbo V-6 or an all-electric powertrain, the latter of which makes the car the brand’s first EV.

Any conversation about the new GranTurismo has to start with the fully electric Folgore variant. Maserati has been teasing it since production of the model went on hiatus in 2019. The latest generation of the car is built on a modular platform that can support either an internal-combustion or battery-electric powertrain. The Folgore has the latter, which consists of three electric motors—one on the front axle, two on the rear powering each wheel. The trio of motors combines to generate 750 horses (not as much as had been predicted but still a lot) and 995 ft lbs of twist, which can be sent to all four wheels or just to the rear set. Thanks to this, the car can rocket from zero-to-62 mph in 2.7 seconds and is capable of reaching a top speed of 199 mph. It’s also the most powerful car Maserati has ever made.

2024 Maserati GranTurismo Folgore Aldo Ferrero

The three motors get their power from a T-shaped battery pack with 83.0 kWh of usable capacity. Maserati says the car will be able to travel 250 miles on a single charge based on Europe’s WLTP test cycle. The EPA’s testing process is notoriously stricter, so don’t be surprised if that number is listed 15 to 20 percent lower on the US version. Neither range is anything to write home about, but it’s important to remember that the GranTurismo was clearly designed with an emphasis on performance rather than efficiency. Luckily, its 800-volt architecture will allow for DC fast-charging, though it’s unclear how long it will take to top off the battery.

Two other variants, the Modena and Trofeo, will be available when the 2024 GranTurismo launches. Both pack the same twin-turbo Nettuno V-6 found in the marque’s excellent MC20 sports car. In the entry-level Modena, the mill produces 489 hp and 442 ft lbs of torque. In the high-performance Trofeo, it generates 550 hp and 479 ft lbs of torque. The Modena can sprint to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 187 mph, while the Trofeo hits 62 mph in 3.5 seconds and shares a top speed with the Folgore. Both gas-powered models have an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. That means all three GrandTurismo variants offer all-wheel drive (albeit with a rear-wheel bias).

2024 Maserati GranTurismo Modena

Unlike the GranTurismo’s hardware, the new model’s look isn’t all that different from the past generation. The car still sits low to the ground, has a long nose and a curvaceous shape, but those elements are more refined than before. The hood and fenders now form a unified segment that the brand is calling the “Cofango.” The grand tourer is also wider and has a new lighting package, similar to that found on the MC20. The three models all look the same, though the EV version has a more sculpted lower front fascia to maximize aerodynamic performance. It’s a subtle makeover, but one that improves a car already famous for its looks.

Surprisingly, no images of the car’s 2+2 cabin were available as of press time. Maserati did say the car will come equipped with a 12.2-inch digital gauge cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment system, an additional 8.8-inch touchscreen and a 14-speaker audio system. We imagine the space will undergo a more significant reworking than the exterior.

2024 Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo Aldo Ferrero

No official release date has been set yet, but you can expect the GranTurismo to arrive sometime next year. We’ll have to get closer to the launch date to learn the pricing info, though Car and Driver reports that Modena will likely start “just under” $200,000 and that the all-electric Folgore will be the most expensive version. Whether that figure turns out to be accurate remains to be seen, but it’s fair to say the car will run significantly higher than its $135,000 predecessor.

Killexams : HP Made a Robot That Prints Blueprints Onto a Construction Site

There are lots of incredibly capable robots in research labs around the world, but very few handling real world jobs. Purpose-built bots, like robovacs, have so far been the most successful, but HP’s new robot does the exact opposite of cleaning floors. It instead draws all over them, on purpose, and could potentially become an invaluable tool on construction sites.

After designs have been approved for a new build, after architects and engineers have drawn up detailed blueprints and schematics, and after a construction site has been cleared and prepped for work to begin, the job of layout starts. It typically involves using survey equipment and other highly accurate measurement tools to transfer the dimensions and layouts specified in a blueprint onto the construction site, detailing where everything is supposed to be built.

Like measuring (and re-measuring) a two-by-four before cutting, layout is an incredibly important step that ensures everything is built where it’s supposed to be and to the proper dimensions on the first try, as having to tear down a partial build and start from scratch as a result of a measuring mistake can be costly. But the process is time-consuming, and can often take weeks to complete for larger builds, even with an experienced team of surveyors. HP believes all that work could instead be handled by just one operator and one robot: the SitePrint.

As the name implies, the SitePrint is more or less a rolling printer equipped with sensors that allows it to avoid obstacles. Instead of relying on GPS, which can be inaccessible if the robot is operating indoors, the SitePrint instead connects to a base station featuring surveyor tools that’s manned by a human operator. The surveyor still needs to determine exactly where the robot needs to do its thing, but once oriented, the robot can autonomously work from digital blueprints to roll around a site and mark where everything needs to go.

Interchangeable printing tools allow the robot to lay down solid lines or dashed lines depending on what the blueprints call for, and it can also print text labels where needed to help reduce confusion between teams. HP has also developed a collection of various inks tailored to different surfaces, environmental conditions, or durability requirements. If the robot’s hard day of work is washed away by an overnight rain and needs to do it all again the next day, it’s not really saving much time.

HP claims the SitePrint robot has been tested in over 80 construction projects to date, including airports, hospitals, parking garages, and even residential builds. It’s not quite ready for primetime just yet, but HP is granting early access to it in North America starting this month, with a broader rollout expected sometime next year.

Killexams : This Gorgeous Porsche 911 Cabriolet Was Transformed Into a 450 HP EV

Everrati wants to take some of the guilt out of driving a classic Porsche drop-top.

The UK-based shop’s latest electric conversion is based on a 964-generation 911 Widebody Cabriolet. Now, you can have some fun in the sun without worrying about all the harmful emissions your sports car’s gas-guzzling engine is pumping out.

Like Everrati’s other Porsches—the 911 coupé and targa—the battery-powered Cabriolet is almost impossible to tell from one with an internal combustion engine. The vehicle looks stock inside and out, which is a good thing since the 964 Cabriolet is one of the most beautiful convertibles of the last 35 years. As the model name makes clear, it’s also wider than a traditional 964-generation 911. The only real changes are inside the cabin, which has been equipped with a modified gauge cluster with a power output indicator and what looks like a new digital stereo deck.

Inside Everatti’s 964-generation 911 Widebody Cabriolet Everatti/Twitter

The biggest modification, naturally, is in the engine bay. The 964’s naturally aspirated, 3.6-liter flat-six has been swapped out for a battery-powered powertrain. You’ll be able to choose between an electric motor that generates either 440 or 500 horses, with the more powerful version also delivering 369 ft lbs of twist, according to Motor1.com. Regardless of which motor you opt for, it’ll offer significantly more power than the 250 hp and 229 ft lbs of torque produced by the standard Cabriolet’s air-cooled mill.

Thanks to its powertrain, Everatti’s Cabriolet will be able to zip from zero-to-60 mph in just four seconds. No top speed has been reported, but we imagine it will be respectable. The setup’s 62-kWh battery will also allow you to travel up to 200 miles between charges, which is solid for an electric conversion. All the electric modifications are fully reversible, too, should you ever decide to go back to an internal combustion engine.

Everatti’s headquarters are in Oxfordshire, England, where it builds all its conversions—including Land Rover Series IIAs and Ford GT40s—designed for customers in the UK and Europe. Aria Group in Irvine, Calif., will handle the construction of those meant for US buyers. No pricing has been announced, but it likely won’t be all that far off from the £250,000 (around $280,000) the shop charges for its electrified 911 coupé.
