Beyond the Top 5: More Cloud Certifications

There’s no overall shortage of cloud-related certifications (nor certificate programs that also attest to cloud competencies).

Although it didn’t make the top five list this year, the CompTIA Cloud+ is still an excellent entry-level credential for those looking for a foundation-level credential. More experienced practitioners should check out Dell’s EMC’s Proven Professional Cloud Architect Specialist (DECE-CA).

You’ll find vendor-specific cloud certifications from companies such as Google, IBM (search for “cloud”), Oracle, Red Hat, Rackspace (CloudU), CA AppLogic and Salesforce. On the vendor-neutral side, the Cloud Certified Professional (CCP) is a comprehensive program aimed at those who aren’t tied to any specific platform. Mirantis offers performed-based OpenStack and Kubernetes certifications at the associate and professional levels. And while it’s a relative newcomer, the vendor-neutral National Cloud Technologists Association (NCTA) CloudMASTER certification is also worth your attention. Pearson Education has released its first iPhone and iPad applications – ebooks that let consumers buy additional content chapters within the application.

The applications are geared toward home, office, technical and professional communities. Pearson said the applications, a new learning format for the company, were designed to complement its suite of other products such as print books, online reference libraries and video.

“The strategy is to make a key selection of our frontlist available to iPhone users,” said ,” said Mark Taub, editor in chief at Pearson Education, New York. “We know there is a market there for computer book content on mobile devices, and the iPhone is our current target.  

“But we will be rolling out solutions this year for Android devices as well,” he said.

Pearson is a global leader in educational and professional publishing. The company is home to brands such as Addison-Wesley Professional, Cisco Press and Prentice Hall Professional.

The first application released is the iPhone Developer’s Library, which combines three books on Mac programming and iPhone application development.

In addition to the fully-populated iPhone Developer’s Library App, Pearson also offers free reader applications that contain one demo chapter from various best-selling Pearson books.

If consumers enjoy the one chapter sample, they can buy the remaining material through an in-application buying feature.

The US Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) 25 Mbps broadband data standard seemed fast in 2015 when it was approved. Seven years have passed since then, and the current leadership of the department believes that it is time to raise the standard for wired home connection to 100 Mbps. This proposal was made by the head of the FCC, Jessica Rosenworsel.

The agency believes that under the current conditions, the broadband standard for downloading should be 100 Mbps, and for uploading data – 20 Mbps. instead of the current 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps uploads. We also note that the increase in performance is due to numerous factors; including the requirements for the construction of new networks.

Rosenworcel’s “Notice of Inquiry proposes to increase the national broadband standard to 100 megabits per second for download and 20 megabits per second for upload and discusses a range of evidence supporting this standard, including the requirements for new networks funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act,” the FCC said in an announcement today. Rosenworcel is also proposing “a separate national goal of 1Gbps/500Mbps for the future.”

Rosenworsel expressed her desire to continue increasing the standard Internet connection speeds in the future. At the same time, she proposed to introduce more criteria for the “reasonable and timely” deployment of networks to provide broadband data transmission. Rosenworsel note that at some point in the future the standard could be increase to 1Gbps for downloads; and 500Gbps for uploads.

At the moment; we do not know whether the initiative of the head of the FCC will receive support in the government. Telecommunication companies are also unlikely to be happy with a change in the standard; since they will have to increase their investment in network development and related infrastructure to comply with the standard.
