Oracle seeks to help law enforcement and first responders handle emergency situations through its new technology platform, Oracle Public Safety Services.

The platform is developed to provide emergency response workers with real-time information and situational awareness to help their decision-making process, the information technology company said Sunday.

Oracle Public Safety Services is also designed to do away with data silos and remove manual busy work.

Oracle has utilized its cloud infrastructure and worked with local government authorities, emergency medical service experts and law enforcement technology professionals for the development of its public safety platform.

The Oracle Public Safety Services suite includes a computer-aided dispatch command center for emergency call management and dispatch, wearable computer communications and camera system for officers, real-time video communication tools, a touch-talk-listen tablet application for vehicle communication and coordination, as well a cloud-based law enforcement records and jail management systems.

“We designed our systems to make the on-scene experience less isolating and emotionally charged by enabling responders to act as a blended team with someone monitoring the situation remotely,” said Steve Seoane, senior vice president and general manager for Oracle’s local government operations.

Killexams : Best Database Certifications for 2020

Savvy, talented and knowledgeable database professionals are always in demand. This article covers some of the best, most in-demand certifications for database administrators, database developers and anyone else who works with databases.

During the past three decades, we’ve seen a lot of database platforms come and go, but there’s never been any question that database technology is a crucial component for all kinds of applications and computing tasks.

Database certifications may not be as sexy or bleeding-edge as cloud computing, storage, or computer forensics. That said, there has been and always will be a need for knowledgeable database professionals at all levels and in a plethora of database-related job roles.

To get a better grasp of the available database certifications, it’s useful to group these certs around job responsibilities. In part, this reflects the maturity of database technology and its integration into most aspects of commercial, scientific and academic computing. As you read about the various database certification programs, keep these job roles in mind:

  • Database administrator (DBA): Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining a database management system (DBMS). Often tied to a specific platform such as Oracle, MySQL, DB2 or SQL Server.
  • Database developer: Works with generic and proprietary APIs to build applications that interact with a DBMS (also platform-specific, like DBA roles).
  • Database designer/database architect: Researches data requirements for specific applications or users, and designs database structures and application capabilities to match.
  • Data analyst/data scientist: Responsible for analyzing data from multiple disparate sources to discover previously hidden insight, determine meaning behind the data and make business-specific recommendations.
  • Data mining/business intelligence (BI) specialist: Specializes in dissecting, analyzing and reporting on important data streams, such as customer data, supply chain data, and transaction data and histories.
  • Data warehousing specialist: Specializes in assembling and analyzing data from multiple operational systems (orders, transactions, supply chain information, customer data, etc.) to establish data history, analyze trends, generate reports and forecasts, and support general ad hoc queries.

Careful attention to these database job roles highlights two important technical issues for would-be database professionals to consider.

First, a good general background in relational database management systems, including an understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL), is a basic prerequisite for database professionals of all stripes.

Second, although various efforts to standardize database technology exist, much of the whiz-bang capability that databases and database applications deliver come from proprietary, vendor-specific technologies. Serious, heavy-duty database skills and knowledge are tied to specific platforms, including various Oracle products (such as the open-source MySQL environment and Oracle itself,) Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2. That’s why most of these certifications relate directly to those enormously popular platforms.

It’s important to note that NoSQL databases – referred to as “not only SQL” and sometimes “non-relational” databases – handle many different types of data, such as structured, semi-structured, unstructured and polymorphic. NoSQL databases are increasingly used in big data applications, which tend to be associated with certifications for data scientists, data mining and warehousing, and business intelligence. Although there is some natural overlap, for the most part, we cover those certs in our annually updated “Best Big Data Certifications.”

Before you look at our featured certifications in detail, consider their popularity with employers. The results of an informal search on several high-traffic job boards show which database certifications employers look for most when hiring. Though these results vary from day to day (and by job board), such numbers provide a useful perspective on database certification demand in current job listings.

SimplyHired reports $86,415 as the national average in the U.S., in a range from $60,960 to over $128,000. Glassdoor’s reported average is somewhat higher at $93,164, with a top rung for experienced, senior DBAs right around $135,000.

Top 5 database certifications

Now let’s look at the details of our top five database certification picks for 2020.

1. IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2

IBM is one of the leaders in the worldwide database market by any objective measure. The company’s database portfolio includes industry standard DB2, as well as IBM Compose, Information Management System (IMS), lnformix, Cloudant and IBM Open Platform with Apache Hadoop. IBM also has a long-standing and well-populated IT certification program, which has been around for more than 30 years and encompasses hundreds of individual credentials.

After redesigning its certification programs and categories, IBM’s major data-centric certification category is called IBM Data and AI, which includes a range of database credentials: Database Associate, Database Administrator, System Administrator, Application Developer and more. It’s a big and complex certification space, but one where particular platform allegiances are likely to guide readers straight to the handful of items that are relevant to their interests and needs.

Database professionals who support DB2 (or aspire to) on Linux, Unix or Windows should check out the IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2 certification. It’s an intermediate credential that addresses routine administration, basic SQL, and creation of databases and database objects, as well as server management, monitoring, availability and security.

This certification requires candidates to pass two exams. Pre-exam training is recommended but not required.

2. Microsoft SQL Server database certifications

SQL Server offers a broad range of tools and add-ons for business intelligence, data warehousing and data-driven applications of all kinds. That probably explains why Microsoft offers database-related credentials at every level of its certification program.

Microsoft has taken significant steps over the last year to change its certification program from technology-focused to role-centric, centered on the skills one needs to be successful in specific technology jobs. With these changes in mind, Microsoft now identifies four job tracks in its certification program: Developers, Administrators, Solution Architects and Functional Consultants. You will find a wide variety of skills and technologies within each of those categories, but we’ll concentrate below on the company’s SQL Server certifications.

MTA: Database Fundamentals

The MTA program includes a single database-related exam: Database Fundamentals (98-364). This credential is ideal for students or as an entry-level cert for professionals looking to segue into database support.

MCSA

Microsoft offers several SQL-related credentials at the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) level:

  • MCSA: SQL Server 2012/2014 (three exams)
  • MCSA: BI Reporting (two exams)
  • MCSA: SQL 2016 BI Development (two exams)

3. Oracle Certified Professional, MySQL 5.7 Database Administrator

Oracle runs its certifications under the auspices of Oracle University. The Oracle Database Certifications page lists separate tracks for Database Application Development (SQL and PL/SQL), MySQL (Database Administration and Developer) and Oracle Database (versions 12c, 12c R2, and 11g, and Oracle Spatial 11g).

MySQL is perhaps the leading open-source relational database management system (RDBMS). Since acquiring Sun Microsystems in 2010 (which had previously acquired MySQL AB), Oracle has rolled out a paid version of MySQL and developed certifications to support the product.

A candidate interested in pursuing an Oracle MySQL certification can choose between MySQL Database Administration and MySQL Developer. The Oracle Certified Professional, MySQL 5.7 Database Administrator (OCP) credential recognizes professionals who can install, optimize and monitor MySQL Server; configure replication; apply security; and schedule and validate database backups.

The certification requires candidates to pass a single exam (the same exam can be taken to upgrade a prior certification). Oracle recommends training and on-the-job experience before taking the exam.

Oracle Certified Professional, MySQL 5.7 Database Administrator facts and figures

4. Oracle Database 12c Administrator

Most Oracle DBMS credentials require candidates to attend authorized training classes to qualify for the related exam, but MySQL (and Sun-derived) credentials often do not. Oracle certifications also represent a true ladder, in that it is generally necessary to earn the associate-level credentials first, professional-level credentials second and master-level credentials third, culminating with the expert level.

Oracle Database 12c R2 is the latest version, which includes enhancements to Oracle Database 12c. Oracle 12c certifications are currently offered at the associate, professional and master levels.

A Foundations Junior Associate certification (novice level) is also available for Oracle Database 12c, as are three specialist designations: the Implementation Specialist, the Oracle Database Performance and Tuning 2015 Certified Implementation Specialist, and the Oracle Real Application Clusters 12c Certified Implementation Specialist.

Available expert-level credentials include the Oracle Certified Expert; Oracle Database 12c: RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administrator; Oracle Database 12c Maximum Availability Certified Expert; Oracle Certified Expert; Oracle Database 12c: Data Guard Administrator; Oracle Certified Expert; and Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning. Oracle still offers 11g certifications as well.

NoteAlthough premium support for Oracle 11g Database ended on Dec. 31, 2014, extended support lasts until December 2020, so it’s probable that Oracle Database 11g will remain in use for the short term.

We focused on requirements for Oracle Database 12c certifications. One important consideration is that Oracle 11g is forward-compatible with Oracle 12c, but Oracle 12c is not backward- compatible with the prior version. Because Oracle 12c is a newer version, IT professionals with Oracle 11g certifications should consider upgrading their 11g credentials.

Beyond the top 5: More database certifications

Besides the ones mentioned in this article, other database certification programs are available to further the careers and professional development of IT professionals who work with database management systems.

While most colleges with computer science programs offer database tracks at the undergraduate, master and Ph.D. levels, there are few well-known vendor-neutral database certifications. The Institute for the Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP) is part of this unique group, offering its Certified Data Professional and Certified Data Scientist credentials. Find out more about ICCP certifications here

EnterpriseDB administers a small but effective certification program, with two primary certs: the EDB Certified Associate and the EDB Certified Professional. PostgreSQL was the fourth-ranked relational database management system in October 2019, according to DB-Engines

Credentials from GoogleMarkLogicTeradata and SAS may also be worth considering. All of these credentials represent opportunities for database professionals to expand their skill sets – and salaries. However, such niches in the database certification arena are generally only worth pursuing if you already work with these platforms or plan to work for an organization that uses them.

Killexams : Oracle unveils 5G cloud-native network analytics suite

Oracle has introduced a range of communications services that it believes can drive innovation with insights from trusted data and enriched analytics.

The cloud-native Oracle Network Analytics Suite combines network function data with machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to help operators make more informed, automated decisions around the performance and stability of their entire 5G network core.

The first offering in the suite, the Network Data Analytics Function, is now available, and allows users to identify anomalies that can cause “catastrophic” network function failures and impact customer service.

Based on cloud-native computing foundation principles and supporting 3GPP standards, the Network Data Analytics Function is a containerised microservices-based architecture managed by Kubernetes. It acts as a data and analytics repository with standard interfaces, and is said to be able to share information that can support use cases across an entire 5G network.

The offering aggregates historical and real-time data such as control-signalling measurements, the state of network functions, congestion and quality of service in one dashboard.

By applying machine learning, predictive analytics and AI to this data, Oracle said service providers can better understand how their 5G core is performing and make better decisions around any actions that need to be taken. This enables carriers to streamline operations and network planning based on insights generated from current, predicted, and even simulated events in their network.

Ultimately, Oracle assures that with the offering, communications service providers (CSPs) can build automation into applications to monitor and audit software components. This will support anomaly detection to avoid events such as network function failure, which could result in degradation of network quality.

The offering can also support network monetisation with data- and insight-sharing to third-party developers to create new services.

Killexams : How Does the Content of Communication Impact Relationships?

When I’m teaching a class on relationships or working with couples or individuals in therapy, at some point I find myself uttering a deeply human truth: everyone has their “not so bright and shiny” moments as partners.

Source: Pexels/Vera Arsic

These are the moments when someone doesn’t choose their words thoughtfully, they’re not paying attention, or they’ve had a tough day and snap at their partner. I could give many more examples, but I’m guessing you probably don’t need me to go on. Of course, people have plenty of “shimmering” moments, too. We’re talking about the times when someone says just the right loving words, is thoughtful and kind amid conflict, is caring and attentive as they listen, or greets their partner with a loving smile and a hug. I’m sure you can think of a host of other instances, too.

But what does it mean when these moments show up in relationships? And how do they tie in with each other? A team of researchers just published a study that examined this question. They sought to build on previous work and illuminate the nature of the connection between:

  • Communication that feels beneficial or satisfying to a couple (the research team called these “perceived positive exchanges”)
  • Communication that feels unfriendly or dissatisfying (“perceived negative exchanges”)
  • How content partners felt in their relationship

The researchers tested three patterns of the ways in which good times and bad times could intersect with each other and with people’s happiness in a relationship.

First, they replicated a wide body of research that has illustrated a linear connection between these two kinds of interactions and how fulfilled couples feel with each other. That is, partners feel happier with each other when their communication generally feels good, and they feel less content when they tend to engage in ways that feel unpleasant.

Second, their findings were in line with the concept of “buffering” and related prior research. This refers to the idea that there’s a sort of dance between the kinds of interactions partners have and how happy they are together. More specifically, the research team noted that among couples who said they didn’t experience a lot of beneficial, supportive communication together, their distressing interactions were more powerfully linked to feeling less content in their relationship compared to couples who enjoyed more connected and warm moments. And what about the couples who usually had more rewarding, pleasant exchanges? In that case, the link between hurtful communication and their happiness together wasn’t as strong. The research team also pointed out that this could work in the other direction: a couple’s tendency to have painful exchanges could act as a buffer (an unfortunate buffer, in this case) against the loving moments that occur.

Third, the researchers tested a “plateauing” pattern. This means that once couples have passed a certain point in how often they experience favorable, thoughtful interactions, or in how much they experience painful, difficult interactions, more of the same isn’t going to make as much of a difference in how happy or unhappy they are together. However, the study’s results didn’t find support for this idea. It's also worth pointing out that the researchers didn’t find evidence of differences across men and women in the study, either.

So, what does all of this mean? As the researchers pointed out, communication that is warm and thoughtful is not merely the flip side of the same coin as communication that is hurtful or unsupportive. They’re separate in their own right. Moreover, the research team noted that a relational environment of largely caring and considerate interactions appears to act as a “buffer” against unpleasant communication, such that the link between painful moments and a couple’s contentment is weaker; and the reverse is true, too.

The researchers were right to state that the study’s design doesn’t allow them to establish any causal relationship, making them unable to specify whether caring and kind interactions actually safeguard the relationship from painful communication, or whether hurtful interactions blunt the beneficial effect of warm, connected communication. The researchers were also correct to highlight that it’s not yet possible to say that these results apply to couples in general due to the limited scope of the partners in their sample, who were opposite-sex, White (mostly), content in their marriage, and who reside in the United States. Accordingly, they’re wise to call for research that includes more diverse couples, and that can advance knowledge of the link between connected versus disconnected interactions and how they intersect with each other to affect relationships.

Killexams : CodeLogic to Share API Endpoint Governance Solution at JavaOne at Oracle CloudWorld

CodeLogic addresses New York Department of Financial Services proposal for expanded API inventory requirements with Continuous Software Intelligence platform

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- JavaOne at Oracle CloudWorld, Booth #511 -- CodeLogic, the Continuous Software Intelligence company, will demonstrate how its platform can fully automate and continuously maintain a complete and accurate inventory of APIs in light of the recently proposed amendment to cybersecurity regulations in New York. JavaOne at Oracle CloudWorld takes place Oct. 17-20, 2022 in Las Vegas. CodeLogic will share its endpoint governance capabilities in booth 511.

CodeLogic is the Continuous Software Intelligence company

The amendment, proposed by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), would enhance the requirements of the 2017 Cybersecurity Regulation (23 NYCRR Part 500). If passed, most financial institutions doing business in New York state will be required to regularly identify and manage all APIs and cloud services, in addition to many other advanced cybersecurity practices.

"As we look at the massive cost of cybersecurity attacks, endpoint governance should be at the forefront of every company's priority list," said Brian Pierce, CEO at CodeLogic. "We look forward to sharing how companies can automate and simplify their API inventory process at the push of a button. With a new regulation pending, there is no better time than now to ensure endpoints are covered."

CodeLogic's CSI platform offers a far-reaching, up-to-date, and highly granular view of complex enterprise-scale software structures. With multiple groundbreaking scanning techniques, CodeLogic can see deeply into binaries (interpreted byte code or executable binaries), database interactions, and schemas. The platform also performs runtime scans of test and/or operating environments—providing unparalleled depth into system dependencies and code-level interactions. Ultimately, with CodeLogic, companies receive full visibility into each API, allowing them to regularly and automatically manage endpoint governance.

NY DFS Cybersecurity Amendment

The proposed amendment to Cybersecurity Regulation 23 NYCRR Part 500 would significantly expand the requirements that covered entities need to follow. In particular, all covered entities would need to develop procedures for ensuring an accurate inventory of all IT assets – not just including hardware and software, but also operating systems, APIs, and cloud services – with requirements for each asset around the information that needs to be collected.

Including APIs and cloud services in this amendment reflects the heightened risk surrounding these technical innovations. The extension of the regulatory regime to cover inventorying of technical infrastructure, especially applications, operating systems, APIs and cloud services, is a significant new step.

To learn more about CodeLogic's endpoint governance capabilities please stop by JavaOne booth 511 for a full demonstration.

Killexams : Oracle (ORCL), TELMEX to Offer Infrastructure Services in Mexico

Oracle ORCL and Teléfonos de México (TELMEX) recently announced a partnership to jointly offer Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services to customers across Mexico, whereby TELMEX-Triara will become the host partner for the second planned Oracle Cloud Region in Mexico.

OCI’s next-generation architecture provides a high-performing, resilient foundation for cloud services, while its physical and virtual network design maximizes performance and security.

OCI’s extensive network of more than 70 regional and global FastConnect partners provides customers with dedicated connectivity to Oracle Cloud regions, OCI, and Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications services, giving them the best options globally.

TELMEX-Triara will become one of the first telecommunications operators in Latin America and Mexico to offer OCI services to organizations in the region.

With the Oracle Cloud Querétaro Region already available and a second planned region in Mexico, Oracle will be able to help Mexican organizations with business continuity while enabling them to address their data residency and compliance requirements.

As part of its ongoing focus on sustainability, Oracle is committed to powering all worldwide Oracle Cloud regions with 100% renewable energy by 2025, including the Querétaro region.

Oracle’s Improving Cloud Capabilities to Aid Latin American Regions

Oracle announced the latest version of Oracle Communications EAGLE Equipment Identity Register, which allows authenticating only subscriber-specific information. This latest version could aid to prevent and curb phone theft in Latin American regions.

Communications service providers, committed to combating phone theft and improving customer service, are looking to implement databases to deactivate lost or stolen mobile devices. By disabling devices and keeping them inoperable on mobile networks around the world, operators can protect customers and help reduce criminals' incentive to steal.

This product allows operators to include the IMEI (international mobile equipment identity) codes of stolen devices, which are the only ones that correspond to specific terminals, in a blacklist that prevents them from operating on the network. It connects to the GSMA-maintained IMEI database, which is stored in the CEIR and acts as a central system for network operators to share information about stolen devices to prevent them from operating on a network.

Oracle’s Cloud Expansion Strategy- A Game Changer

Oracle is striving hard to strengthen its position in the lucrative cloud space. As part of Oracle’s planned expansion of its cloud region footprint to support strong customer demand for OCI and Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications services worldwide, Oracle aims to open additional cloud regions in Colombia, Chile, and Israel, and plans to offer at least 44 cloud regions.

In first-quarter 2023, Oracle's total quarterly revenues were up 18% year over year, largely due to a 14% increase in cloud services and license support subscriptions. Total cloud services and license revenues for the quarter hit $8.4 billion — driven by Oracle Fusion Cloud, Oracle Autonomous Database and OCI Gen 2.

An expanding clientele is enabling the company to maintain its leading position in the cloud ERP market. The healthy adoption of cloud-based applications, comprising NetSuite Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Fusion ERP and Fusion Human Capital Management (HCM) bodes well for the long term.

Apart from Oracle, the HCM space is dominated by the likes of Workday WDAY, SAP SE SAP and Automatic Data Processing ADP.

SAP’s SuccessFactors Solutions suite is the mainstay of the company’s HCM solutions. Last year, the company added a new cloud-based solution— the SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking — to the SAP SuccessFactors Human Experience Management solutions portfolio.

Workday’s top line is being driven by high demand for its HCM and financial management solutions. Some of the notable HCM deal wins for Workday include Novartis, DraftKings, and CTBC Bank.

Automatic Data Processing is one of the leading names in the cloud-based HCM solutions space. The company has expanded its footprint in the HCM market through multiple acquisitions that include Celergo, WorkMarket, and The Marcus Buckingham Company.
